I had arrived for my first ever business trip to Casablanca earlier in the evening and felt peckish after too much work in my nearby hotel room. Armed only with a credit card I went in search of food quite late in the evening. I fell upon the Burger Burger-Bio Burger fast food joint within a reasonable walking distance of my hotel and on seeing the "accept credit card" signs in the window, I went in for a quick bite. The security guard welcomed me warmly as did the slightly startled staff (were they really expecting more custom that evening)? One guy behind the country thrust a menu in my hands and invited me to take a seat and study the culinary delights on offer. I plumped for a Moroccan bio burger which came with a huge plate of chips with ketchup and mustard on the side. This was washed down by a mug of suspiciously frothy peach ice tea.
All in all, it filled the gap in my stomach until breakfast. As my first experience of Moroccan cuisine, it was clearly not typical (to say the least!). But I couldn't have wanted for a more polite service and courtesy in a part of town which gave me the impression of being anything other than safe - something which was later confirmed by my local host :-(
