Firstly the hotel is good, well equipped with lovely grounds.
It was set in an area about a 25 minute walk away from the soukes
The pool is large albeit freezing cold as it’s not heated and even the kids pool is not heated. Although this did not ruin our holiday as it was not overly hot I can imagine when the temperature rises it would spoil your break.
The hotel is clean and the gardeners and cleaners do a fabulous job.
The room however needs urgently updating in the bathroom as there is a shower over the bath with pathetic shower curtain that is not long enough and you get wrapped in it. The towels are also past there sell by date for a 4 star hotel as they were thin and rough. The pool towels were actually better quality.
The air con was not working and when we complained we were told it had not been switched on yet as still cold at night. That was true but would have been better than having to leave the ground floor door open making it feel unsafe.
There is a fridge in the rooms but not even water or soft drinks supplied which we thought was strange as all riu hotels supply water and soft drinks. You can collect water bottles from the bar but no one tells you this information, we had to ask for it.
The drinks are pretty poor and appeared to have a horrible aftertaste however the wine and beer were above average.
The food was good for breakfast and lunch however the evening meal very repetitive and bland. It was the same every evening and even when the evening buffet stated an oriental evening we had to laugh as there was just spring rolls and nothing else oriental.
The chef should go to Agadir to the Riu Tikida beach as the food here was amazing and he may get a better imagination. We were very disappointed with the evening food due to how repetitive and bland it was. Even the tagines were bland and only vegetarian options available, it would have been lovely to have had lamb or even goat which is readily available here .
The Moroccan restaurant on site that has to be booked was fairly good however the tagines were still bland. I didn’t expect these to be hot but you do expect flavour and a little spice as your in Morocco after all.
Staff were very pleasant and very helpful.
Book trips with an independent taxi company as the TUI prices were ridiculous and expensive.
We feel that all riu hotels should be of a similar standing and this one is no where near as good as ones we had previously stayed in.

Room tip: First or second flloor would be quieter

We are currently coming to an end of our family holiday here. And to keep it brief i would say the following:

- good food and choice but watered down beer and poor quality spirits so take your own from duty free as we did!
- you cannot get any drinks after 12am so take whatever you can from the bar to your room before this time.
- be warned that the shuttle bus does NOT take you to the Medina, its about a good 25 min walk.
- Be prepared for the beggars in the medina and just keep saying La Shokra (meaning no thank you).
- rooms are very basic with small fridge but kept very clean.
- we did the camel ride and the Marrakesh by night and the 4×4 berber trail excursions which were all worth it and a good experience.
- don't expect much in the way of entertainment in the evenings or you will be disappointed.
- expect people to expect tips from you for almost everything! The porter stood in our room for about 5 mins expecting tips for bringing our suitcases but i just ignored him.
- the wine is good so if you like wine you won't be disappointed.
Make sure you have things planned for the time you are here unless all you want to do is sun bathe or you will get very bored as there is not much to do.
- it you plan to eat out side the hotel check that the restaurant serve alcohol as not many do.

We went to the Riu Tikidi Beach in Agadir last year and was expecting the same level of hotel, unfortunately the Tikida Gardens isn't quite the same standard. The hotel itself is a little tired around the edges and whilst the staff are excellent and very welcoming it could do with an upgrade!

Room - the rooms are very clean and the maids do an excellent job but the bathrooms are old and the separate toilet the flush was broken and smelt quite bad (drains I guess).

Pool area - water is freezing! Sunbeds are plentiful and you can reserve after 08:00 - you get new towels each day (if you want!) - we also tried the spa which was OK (not great but OK) - the gardens are nice and a pleasant walk.

Reception - quite dark and the only place (apart from bar) where you get the WiFi - didnt really have much to do with reception but they will change your money and you get a great exchange rate. There is also a nice little shop for essentials and gifts

Bars - only really went to the main bar - nice background music but funny taste to the cocktails - we stuck to the wine and asked for schweppes mixers for the gin!

Entertainment - the chaps by the pool try to get you involved with games etc.. didn't bother with nighttime entertainment but I think was mostly Karaoke!

Food - was plentiful but after a week you have had enough - best day was when they wanted feedback - shame same level wasn't there the whole week but waiters look after you and if you give them a small tip you will be appreciated! we did try the 1001 nights and that was pleasant for a change but was quiet when we were there.

Shuttle bus - dont bother it drops you miles from the main square for some reason - its quicker to walk direct from the hotel - dont be put off by the area the locals are lovely!

Top tips - we booked a taxi to take us into the Atlas Mountains and it was far cheaper and much better than a crowded coach!

Le Jardin Secret and Yves St Laurant museum are not to be missed

all in all was OK - we had great weather, Marrakesh airport was a problem as we had a 2 hour wait to get through passport control on way in so be prepared - transfers were easy though!

Room tip: we had ground floor with outside area but not in sun so may be worth requesting one it can also be quite noisy from rooms above.....

Highly recommended - if you are looking for a real Moroccan experience, this is a place to go. Value for money, great staff and the food are just amazing! I would definitely come back to this place when in Marrakesh.
