3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2011

We have just arrived home after spending the New Year in this hotel. It was clean, in a good location and cheap that is all I can say about this hotel. The bar staff were not very friendly, neither were the reception staff, other than the guy on night duty, he gave us a smile every night. The old guy in the restaurant was pleasant also. The breakfast was tea or coffee,1 glass of orange juice,1 pain au chocolate, 1 bread roll, 2 little butter pats and a laughing cow cheese triangle. We asked for more cheese and the miserable waitress shouted to us - ONLY ONE ! ! ! We wanted cheap and that is what we had so we couldn't complain. The first night we ate in Charleys Bar, just around the corner from the hotel, the food there was very nice, can recommend that. La Taverne was a men only bar, also just around the corner but us 2 girls were welcomed along with our partners @ 12 dirhams a can we went there quite often. We ate one night in the restaurant garden behind La Taverne , that was nice and the setting was lovely. The medina is about a 30 minute walk away straight down the road. Opposite the hotel is the Tourist bus stop for the hop on hop off bus. We spent our New Years Eve in a fabulous restaurant just down one of the alleyways off the medina, it was called Dar Najjerine, highly recommened if you visit Marrakech.

Good value for money, courteousstaff, rooms clean and towels changed daily. Quiet in evening but good central location - most places within walking distance. Very handy cinema if you visit during the film festival

This was a basic hotel room at the rear which was very quiet. The room was very clean. Bathroom and towels very clean. Linen changed everyday. No complaint at all for the price. Reception helpful with everything. Restaurant was pretty good most of the time and pricewise was fair. Downside poor choice of wine which was terrible. No Frills place but quite bearable if you dont plan living in the bedroom.

Bus No 1 close by to El Jama which is way too far to walk in heat, it takes around 30 mins. 10 mins on the bus.

We stayed at the amalay for 3 nights and had a pleasant experience. The only real negative was the brekfast but you get what you pay for i suppose.

The room was very clean and a maid tidied every day. Our room faced the main road but to be honest we never noticed or were disturbed by this. It is about 20mins from Djeema el Fna and if you turn left out of the hotel and walk for 3-5 mins there is a supermarket behind the shell garage. A lovely morrocan resturant al fassia is just across the road, though best to book a table as we found it to be fully booked when we first tried.

The staff were helpful arranging our taxi back to the hotel and a tour for us on one day. Overall a great base to see the city

We have just returned from a city break in Marrakech and stayed at the amalay hotel, I had read the reviews before leaving and was concerned about some of the comments. Our room was spotless with air conditioning, television and balcony, and we had maid service every day with clean towels. The hotel staff were friendly and the continental breakfast included freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries etc. The only negative comment I can make is that the hotel is on a busy road, and can be noisy.

Stayed here one night then moved over to the much better Hotel Nassim. There was a funny sewer smell in the room. There was black mould all over the bathroom tiles, and it was very noisy as the room faced the main. The staff were rude especially the young woman.

Amalay Hotel was a very clean and average hotel, the rooms were spacious and comfortable with traditional decor. The reception staff weren't as helpful or friendly as perhaps they could have been but we already had a plan and found our way around ourselves anyway. It's in a good location, about 20 minutes walk from Djemma El Fna (Medina) and also 20 minutes walk from Majorelle Gardens too. Not to mention its across the road from the Marrakech hop on-hop off red tour bus stop as well which was very useful, its also 5 minutes walk from a lovely restaurant, Al Fassia too. The lady serving breakfast in the hotel was lovely and the pain au chocolat with freshly squeezed orange juice went down well each morning.

Would recommend to others as it worked well for us as a base for a lovely trip to Marrakech.
