Description: In 2014, Kamal Laftimi and Sebastian de Gzell took over an old carpet store off the famed Rahba Lakdima spice square (places des épices) and, alongside interior designer Romain Meniere, transformed it into “Nomad”. With a strong emphasis on fresh local produce and ample variety for vegetarians, pescetarians, and carnivores alike, the lively restaurant serves simple “Modern Moroccan” cuisine: revisions of traditional local cuisine and international dishes with a Moroccan twist. Spread over 4 floors, with intimate dining rooms and two levels of terraces that offer fantastic views of the surrounding Medina and Atlas mountain range (when visible between November and May), Nomad is perfect for both lunch and dinner, or to simply repose from the hustle and bustle of the souks with a much-needed drink.

My friend and I booked the roof top terrace for lunch and it was the best idea! Food there is really tasty and healthy and the 360º views over Marrakech are breathtaking.

Mediocre food (courgette beignet, burger, calamari, orange cake), lackadaisical service, not cheap. Tourist hip. Avoid. Cafe des Epices across the square is ten times tastier and much cheaper.

Book ahead and wear something warm if you want to sit outside. The capes provided do the job though, and make the experience quite fun. Warm starters were really tasty and my tagine was good.

Some of the best and most inventive food we had in Marrakech, definitely different from the standard fare in the Medina. I knew I would want the Cauliflower and it did not disappoint...maybe not as good as the Berber and Q version but the cous-cous served with it was amazing. Sides also delicious, especially the spiced potatoes.
No alcohol, but they do a mean avocado and date smoothie.

Make sure you book in advance and ask for a table on the ample terrace; a lovely spot to sit and listen to the call to prayer kick off in the evening. Only downside is that the whole thing seems more than a little rushed. I imagine they turn a significant number of tables given the lack of wine to linger over...
