Excellent mid range camp

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 1, 2019
Stayed in Mawe Camp while on our self drive safari. We loved our tent with a Queen size and the shower plus toilet. There are separate tents for your meals and a lounge plus bar. Our first morning the staff surprised us with a "bush breakfast" it was wonderful to have your meal set up in nature. All staff at the camp are wonderful, very helpful and hard working. The meals are the best we had on the road. The cook was excellent. I would highly recommend staying at this camp. You won't be issapointed

We were booked at the Mawe Tented Camp for 4-6 Nov 2018. Everything was going wonderfully, and the booking agent, Kilidove Tours and Travels was extremely helpful up to the last point.

However, being nationals of Bangladesh (four out of seven) we were denied the visa for Tanzania on 4 Nov. We waited for three straight days and could not manage to get the visa, and we were in full contact with the agent. Out of our $5K+ costs, half of it was paid. We paid some penalties for no show, and three members of our group actually arrived and used a vehicle for the last day of our booking, but apart from that did not incur any further costs.
The agent refused to refund our money. We are still waiting for even a partial refund, but no one responds to our email anymore. I could not believe that Tanzania, a leader in safari tourism could treat guests with genuine problems, in this way.

Very well organized tented camp with excellent staff
The tents were very cosy and very big. The food was a pleasant surprise (as in most tented camps we visited)
The location is ok, even though central serengeti is a vast area and sometimes you need to drive a bit more for wildlife viewing
Excellent value for the money

Serengeti Mawe Tented Camp is the great place to spend nights during Safari in Serengeti. The tents were very comfortable, clean. The only problem was the warm water in the shower and charging electronic equipment. The camp is far away from any other lodgings and has the electricity from the solar panels. But ask staff for help with this and will be happy to help. The food was very good and prepared fresh every day. Very safe place. Security guards will walk you to and from the tent. During the night, we could hear wild animals close to the camp! So excited! In the afternoon we could go around the camp with the staff members to see the area and learn about the history of the camp as well as about animals, their habitats or behaviors. We personally prefer tented camps then hotels or other buildings lodgings, because we could feel more connected with nature.

It looks like a tent but it’s not. Its palatial inside with large beds a big shower with hot water and big ante room and 2 beds so it can sleep 4 adults. We felt we should have known that and we could have shared and cut our cost of staying into half. The sound of the thundershowers on the tent and the tropical warm rain and noises you can hear at night of the animals made it worth it! Embrace the lizards and small animals that skitter around and the food and chef are all lovely and obliging! Great laundry service too!

The staff at the Serengeti Mawe tent camp could not have been nicer and made us feel safe throughout our 2-night stay. Dinner was delicious! It was exciting to hear animals outside our tent at night and see the tell tale sign of fresh foot prints in the morning.
