“Awesome place to party, bad place to sleep”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2012

Shoestrings is a great place to hang out, have a beer, order a delicious pizza, and meet other backpackers. However, the activity center is not great and neither is reception. Those two however are nothing to the sheer loudness of the dorms. The bar party will go till 2:30am and you will be one thin piece of wood away from it trying to cram your fingers in your ears and readjust the boards under your mattress. Go here and hang, but the dorms aren't worth it. If you're cheap and there is nowhere else (Fallstown is limited), then bring ear plugs and a sleeping pill and you just might survive.

To put it bluntly the place is a dump. We have been travelling 2 months through Africa and this has been hands down the worst place yet!!! If I could it do over again I would rather take a short walk to stay elsewehere than stay here EVER again. Our room was crawling with ants! Had to sleep in a twin bed with my boyfriend because ants both dead and alive infested the beds. The first night we had no hot water and our toilet didnt flush. There solution was to unplug the toilet which I'm not sure how that solves any problem.

Ordered breakfast of eggs and toast not sure how you could mess that up but they were so over cooked I could hardly cut them with a knife.

The pool sounds nice but, once you realize that it hasnt ever been clean you will think twice before wanting to take a dip in it.

The internet is overpriced compared to walking into town and they actively say they monitor everything you look at!

The service is horrible had to ask several times to several different people about getting our room situation cleared up before anything ever happened. Staff is overall lazy and young so they obviously dont care.

There really aren't many options for backpackers in Vic Falls. The food here is good but very overpriced. The dorms are very very basic, bad smells, no mosquitos nets, ... The kitchen was the worst thing, very very disgusting. If you have to stay here I hope it's a short stay, I only stayed for I night and wouldn't have been able to stay longer.
I wouldn't stay here again...

This place has a nice vibe in the evenings, the food is good and the rooms are well priced. Certainly a good place to stay when in Vic falls area.

Once I got past the initial room stuff up (was supposed to be a double not a twin and there was no fan or a/c in the first rm, maybe ok in winter but not in Nov) and being extremely basic, hence the price tag, this place is actually a little oasis. The gardens are beautiful and lush and the food and atmosphere at the bar is awesome. Added bonus was watching everyones whitewater rafting dvd's on the big screen each night. Just loved the dogs too especially as I was missing mine from home.
As for noise, well I was too tired each night to care so didn't really notice.

Shoestrings is basically a backpackers lodge. It means that the rooms are quite basic, with shabby bathrooms and no mosquitoe nets, but nicely decorated and cosy. As any backpackers lodge, though, the atmosphere is fantastic, there is always party at the garden/bar/restaurant without having to leave the lodge. A nice place to stay, I would definitely go back there if I went again to the Falls, which are at walking distance from the hotel (20 minutes).

This is the cheapest room with Airconditioning which we needed as we were here in October 2011. It was very hot but be warned that the room is warmer than outside. There are other more expensive option but we decided not to move because it was walking distance from town and the falls.

Room Tip: many choices but unable to find them online.
