My first advice is when you get to Zimbabwe passport control ASK FOR A MULTIPLE VISA; we did not know and found we had to pay $55 each time we wanted to take a trip either in Zambia or botswana! They are very near and lots of interesting trips go there! very frustrating and expensive!
Lokuthula lodges are very well appointed, very comfortable! the views from your back verandah are extensive, soul restoring and so relaxing. The pools at the Boma are like water holes but wonderful to soak in and clean. they cannot help the leaves or poor insects falling every minute in it! The staff are so helpful kind and willing to do anything for your comfort. The dinner we had at the Boma with African dishes and drums and dances was a delight!
BUT we found general food and drink prices were much too high, not only that but whether at the Boma or at Victoria Safari lodge prices were in $ but if you paid by credit cards you are billed in Rands, which meant that if you come from Europe you are charged twice exchange rates and the rand rate conversion was really poor. Add to this very poor and long service plus high prices, plus specially, at the Victoria falls Safari Lodge, poor quality and poor value for money even at the Makuwa Kuwa restaurant, and dispite the 20% discount on food, we found eating at the Victoria Falls Hotel or Ilala Hotel much more exciting much better quality and value for money! However there are many positive things and we shall be back to Lokuthula having gained from our experience! and the staff is really very kind.

Stayed here for one night. The chalets are cheap and cheerful; well equipped for self catering needs. The chalets have 2 bedrooms, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, lounge and a braai area. The chalets were also clean and comfortable. There's also a free shuttle service into town.

If you feel lazy, the Vic falls safari lodge is a few minutes walk away and they have a restaurant in this hotel. There's also the pricey african themed boma restaurant.

There were lots of mosquitoes in the chalet we had booked and neither the chalets nor the lodges provide any bug spray so make sure you bring some!

7 of us stayed in the lodges and loved it. Great open air space with great private terrace and wonderful scenery. Just make sure to close the canvas curtains during the day, as some hungry monkeys entered our lodge and enjoyed some chips while we were out. Zim lady at the Activities desk was great and helped us pick our excursions - Chobe National Park visit is a MUST. Property was well maintained, staff friendly and main lodge was beautiful. I would go back in a heartbeat!

We arrived here for a 2 night stay and glad that it was no longer.. Welcome was average and felt that they could not have been bothered . The rooms were Ok , but basic and in need of some money being spent on them to bring them up to a reasonable standard.
Meals were expensive and slow , main hotel looked to be in much better condition than the lodges and the views from the main bar area were fantastic. The wildlife on the doorstep is nice but not as good as our next few days in a lodge in South Africa. We had a trip over the border into Zambia and saw how the other half lived as we visited the Royal Livingstone Hotel which is by far a much nicer hotel and made us feel like we were in a 2* by comparison at the Lokuthula Lodges.
The one good thing was the free shuttle bus that takes you the 10 minute drive ino the centre. Driver Pious was also very helpful and told us where he would collect us later etc and he looked out for us .
Whilst the rooms are clean they are basic and gloomy, kitchen is adequate but the crockery and utensils cheap. Bathrooms are mouldy and need painting and towels smelt musty.
Also the second night we had a power cut from 7pm ish until the next morning and again the next morning until we left at lunch so could not use anything in kitchen.....
As the lodges look great they just need some money spending on them and a hairdryer in room would have been nice but this was an additional cost. There are no tea or coffee facilities or even bathroom products !! So make sure you take some with you.

Room Tip: Try another hotel or go with low expectations

This two bedroom cottage was a handy place to stay for our group of three friends. Nicely decorated and with a fully-equipped kitchen (slightly annoying was being asked to check the contents against a list) and BBQ out the back, it was a lovely setting amongst trees and grass kempt by grazing warthogs. The nearby restaurant had an amazing outlook over a waterhole where we sat and watched the sun set before enjoying a tasty meal of local cuisine very well-presented.

There were so many highlights to this accommodation. The main lodge at reception is a huge thatched roof open-air building with views out over the Zimbabwean plains and a water hole where the wildlife come to drink. The first evening we saw around 30 elephants drinking at the water hole. Every evening after that there also 10+ elephants drinking. The building is about 4 or 5 stories high and we enjoyed beautiful food at the restaurant there. The warthog is a must try dish, delicious! The lodge we stayed in was excellent with a canvas front entrance that can be opened. Quiet, beautiful, clean and an overall magical experience. A shuttle runs to town which was convenient. One thing we would have changed is making more time out of our schedule to relax and enjoy this beautiful accommodation.
