Owner description: A fire destroyed the biggest of the area street markets in 2003, so other centers have popped up around the town for arts and crafts, foodstuffs and souvenirs.

the markets of Burkina are such a vibrant explosion of colour and life, well worth a visit, the cloth that is made in Burkina, if you feel good at haggling and are capable in French or have someone who is then this is the place for you. However if you don't feel you've quite the nerve for haggling in the bustling markets, Tigoung Nonma is well worth a visit. It's a cooperative of disabled artisans and they have a tiny shop in Ouaga - the prices are fixed; the people who work there are lovely, the work is beautiful and the money goes to a good cause which is just a whole load of positives really. Well worth a look in.

Such a nice place to buy original souvenirs Made by those People Who sell them. Be' careful for the price, since you are a tourist they would start with higher prices, i have been there with local People that's why i know. The place is very nice, you would walk and see All these different arts.

The Grand Marche is not for your first time visitor to West Africa. The merchants are in business to sell and they view the "Nasara" as a great possible customer. That being said, I had no problems and was not inconvenienced by the attention I received. It was similar to any place where someone with more money than the local housewife/typical customer shops. They wanted to make sure that I found what I was looking for and hoped to be the one to sell it to me. Normal stuff. I liked it and found some fabric that I did but along with a couple souvenirs for my kids.
It is crowded and personal space is sacrificed for business expediency- so what? If you're not ready for that kind of place, go to the Artisan Village. They are busy and clean everything up at the end of the day.

I found the market wonderful, especially for textiles. Amazing indigo, mud cloth, batik and wax prints. Wonderful clothing and wonderful people.
