I have stayed twice in Asmara Palace Hotel, in December 2017 and March 2018 and it was always a very pleasant experience. Rooms are spacious, well kept and clean. Minor issues with a mirror in the bathroom were readily settled by the hotel staff.
Bar offers a great coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and sweets. Restaurants offers an interesting choice of international meals, but one can go also for a tasty Arabic Buffet in the evening.

Personally, I would like to thanks all hotel staff for the great help they offered during my stay in March. One morning I felt sick (due to the flu) and several members of the staff helped me generously to reach my room, especially, Dr Frewaine and Mr Ionnas. Even the hotel manager came to assure himself that I was feeling better, thus I consider the hotel staff more like a friends than just a staff.

The floor in the room has not been vacuumed in ages, if ever so bring your shower shoes ... do not go barefoot, ever. If you go to the restaurant plan to wait and wait ... the staff will not come to your table unless you wave them down even if you are the only customer Internet is slow and drops you ... in part because most of the staff are surfing the internet and hogging the signal. Plan to be sick ... pizza is about the only thing decent with maybe a C+ grade. Coffee is very good ... B to B+

The hotel is owned by Gazprom ... if you try to have your company pre-pay your stay your payment is wired to Gazprom in Moscow. Now that is a mind blower. I think this government is a puppet of the Ruskies.

Oh, bring your own sheets ... I sleep on top of my sleeping bag.

TV is decent ... good CNN and BBC quality.

The hotel is Euro and US Dollar only ... bring cash! No ATMs here in Eritrea and if there was all you would get is Eritrean Nafka which nobody wants.

Wonderful weather here.

Oh, they give you one bottle of water per day and charge you for any over your ration of one.

Room Tip: Do not choose any room ... if you are a tourist perhaps go camping.

I stayed at the Asmara Palace for a few days and was pleasantly surprised. While the hotel is old, and it shows in places, the administration is doing well in keeping it all working and the attitude and service of the staff is excellent. Breakfasts are not great--stick to the breads--but pizza in the pub is excellent. Service in the Business Centre is excellent. And where else can you get an excellent one hour massage for $25USD. Try the coffee service in the little traditional venue by the pool--fun, and excellent.

After a disasterous experience in a hotel in Massawa, we came to this hotel. What a relief!! Although internet speed was still poor it was so much better than in Massawa and for business nowadays you just need wifi. Service is good (but typical for Eritrea very slow), rooms are clean and spacious and there are multiple sport activities although expensive when you wan to play e.g. tennis which would cost you about 23$ per hour as guest. Don’t have high expectations about the food, not best quality but again at a relatively high price. Nevertheless, again it’s a very good hotel for Eritrean standards.

I had a large room on the 4th floor. Negative points: hotel is expensive, pigeon droppings on the balcony had been there for some time, shower head did not function properly , could not open safe in room. Carpet stained.Food in restaurant expensive and abysmal. Hearing people in adjacent rooms annoying if trying to sleep.
Positive points: staff are a delight ,good position if you want to be near the airport for your departure. Need to get a taxi into the city but shared taxis are very cheap. As the hotel used to be the Intercontinental rooms are large and beds and pillows outstandingly comfortable.Very nice large outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Small but adequate gym.Wifi comes and goes but better than anywhere else.
