This hotel is a 3 star hotel that thinks it is a five-star hotel.

The rooms are quite nice, with comfortable beds and nice fluffy bedding, and the bathroom is really gorgeous. The location is also great, right in the clocktower square, and walking distance to all the main Thimphu sites (but then again, so are all the hotels). But, nothing quite works the way it should for how it looks. For example, the heating first didn't work at all, and then was way too high. And you aren't able to adjust it without the hotel coming to do it for you.

The bathtub is absolutely beautiful, and my boyfriend really wanted to take a bath in it, it looked so appealing. He got in the bath and starting filling it up, and after about 2 inches of water filled the tub, the hot water ran out. What's the point of having a bathtub if you aren't going to have enough water to fill it?

The service was also questionable. The staff looked inconvenienced every time I asked for anything, especially for Internet. We felt as if they would have been happier if we hadn't stayed there. They also gave our passports to a different couple accidentally, which to me is a huge mistake. If that couple had happened to leave the hotel, we would have been in trouble. All it would have taken was for them to double check the photos and the names before handing over passports. We luckily got our passports back later that day after I had realized the mistake they made (when they tried to give us the other couple's passports).

In general, we felt like what we were paying at this hotel didn't even come close to it's value. As a result, we moved next door for the rest of our stay...not worth paying a couple hundred dollars if you aren't going to get the basic amenities and service that you expect.

Room Tip: Choose one of the newer rooms that's been refurbished.

Dear Guest
Firstly Thank you for your feedback. All feedback is taken seriously by us and acted upon as quickly as possible. We have corrected the situation with the hot water. There was a problem with the temperature setting of the individual geysers. This has been corrected immediately by the suppliers of the same. For the heating part we have trained the staff to provide the details on the check in of the guest. I have again taken up this issue with the concerned department and will follow up on this. For the bath tub part it was the same problem concerning the geyser which has now been addressed. We are truly sorry for the problem with your passport and the concerned department has been advised accordingly.

Please be assured that we at the Druk will take every step to make sure that our guest feels at home when away from home. I hope you will give us an opportunity again to serve you better.

Next to town square. Fabulous toilets. Choice of Four colour rooms. Tasty food. Services are concern, as any where in Bhutan. Nice place to stay.

I along-with my other colleagues was staying at this hotel during 18 to 22.12.2011. I was allotted room no. 107. Room is good but on next day during my bathe geyser stopped working so alternate room was opened and I was shifted to room no. 105. Again in the morning door latch was not working and I had to call my colleagues to open the door. I was shifted to room no. 104 & when we were leaving the hotel in the morning of 22 dec, I found that geyser of this room has also stopped working again so alternate room was opened for me to take the bath.

Hotel management must act to avoid such feedback.

Dear Guest
Thank You for your valued feedback. The issues of the geysers has been sorted out. We are using one of the best geysers which is an American make A.O SMITH. There was some problem in the setting itself which has been rectified. The lock issue has been sorted out too.

Thank You once again and look forward to having you with us.

This is one of the two best hotels in Timphu, Bhutan. The hotel has been recently renovated and has very good rooms bhutanese style. Have a luxuirious bathroom with good shower an hot water. The room we stayed at was big, facing one of the two main streets. The heating system runs without problem and it is enough to keep the room in a good temperature. Internet connection was free, and really fast keeping in mind that Thimpu is in the middle of the Himalayas.
The restaurant has Indian, Chinese, Bhutanese, and a little international selection. The food could be prepared without spice so it is perfectly adapted to western tastes. During high season they serve buffet. In low season they go by the menu. As when you book your travel to Bhutan the food is included you won’t have to worry for the cost of what you eat, providing you don’t ask alcoholic drinks or too much.
Location: as I explain before, this property is in one of the main streets of Thimpu. Nearby you will find a convenient supermarket and some fantastic handicrafts shops. It’s in a 10 minute walking distance to the post office and banks.
Changing money: The hotel accepts Indian, European, Japanese, and of course US currencies. Be very careful. When changing US dollars they are pretty strict with the year and the shape of the bills. Nothing older than 2004, or deteriorated. The hotel also accepts credit cards.
(sorry I forgot to take the picture of the shower :) )

Having inspected all hotels in Thimpu for work, the newly refurbished rooms at the Druk Hotel are the nicest in Thimpu if you're not staying at the 5 star Taj, Aman, or Termalinka. Be sure to book refurbished rooms. Rooms in the other wing are fine for 3 star, but the refurbished rooms are closer to 4star. Their restaurant also serves some decent Indian food.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for our first two nights in Bhutan. It was about the only hotel on our itinerary that wasn't changed. Thank goodness! The location is great, slap bang in the centre of Thimpu. Our room was amazing, with a very comfortable bed, and a luxuriously deep bath. It is a bit weird to have folding shutters between the bathroom and the bedroom part, not very soundproof, but everything else made up for that.
The food here was by far the best that we had in Bhutan and it was the only place where you could get a cocktail!
On our first night we ordered Tandoori chicken and it was fabulous - some of the best Indian food we have ever had anywhere. On the second night we were taken to a restaurant called Bhutan Kitchen, to meet the boss of our tour company. We insisted on being taken back to The Druk so that we could have our evening meal there - there was no comparison! Breakfast was a buffet one day, and you ordered from the menu the next. The porridge was good and the tea and coffee service was fab, really quick and efficient.
What really made this hotel for me was the staff. They were so special - really friendly, warm and kind. We had a great night in the bar chatting away to Tek, the barman and listening to his stories. Like every other hotel in Bhutan that we went to, the bar was deserted, but he kept us company while we polished off a decent bottle of red wine.
No other hotel that we stayed in came anywhere close to The Druk, and by the end of our stay we were longing for it's comforts. If you stay here at the beginning of your tour, please make the most of it. Nowhere else comes close.

After the recent renovation the Druk Hotel has become the best option in Town. Sophisticated details in the new luxury rooms with a unique local bhutanese character and charm, combined with a personalized family service. I have always loved the Druk because i am surrounded by an attentive team who treats me as if I was part of their family. Now, with this amazing upgrade renovation, the dimensions are breathtaking. Strongly recommended!
