... as our expectations were totally exceeded. One should definitely not compare eating Japanese food in
Japan or where you can get fish caught only some hours ago. Under the local circumstances our dinner just made fun, suhsi, the famous spinach, teppanyaki and ALL the other goodies were very tasty, a
nice interieur and an excellent, professionell service.

We were at Mako's for dinner last February and enjoyed this Chef's restaurant, located among the beautiful and relaxing gardens of Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu. It is chic and trendy, with an extremely gentle service. We ordered missoshiro (soy) soup with tofu cheese, beef "sukiyaki and white rice. Japanese Kirin beer and green tea completed the scene. Bon Appétit!

Fussy service forgot the tea...
But for most of the meal I enjoyed my cheap, cold sake. My fault. I should have ordered the expensive version.
The salmon nigiri was nearly tasteless partly because it was icy cold. Also, it was cut too thick.
My vegetable tempura was quite inferior due to poor batter, poor selection of vegetables and poor execution.
I did not care for the unsolicited appetizers.
I must say the my friends enjoyed their set meals for the most part.
I miss having some nice genmai cha or?

This is a good attempt at a Japanese restaurant with quite authentic surroundings. The food is very expensive for what you get unless you go for the set menu which is still expensive. One comes here because one needs a fix for Japanese food after being away for so long.
The menu is quite extensive. However without seeing a sushi counter and not sure about the freshness of their sashimi especially since Nepal is a landlocked country so we stayed clear of the sashimi and sushi. They gave the free starters which is agadeshi tofu except that it wasn't. It tasted quite good though. The rest of the food was pretty good: the vegetable tempura was generous in portions, chasoba was okay, udon was good. The green tea was very good - but potent stuff. Couldn't sleep the whole night after that. The only real complaint was the soba (mackerel) - it was already expensive but the two tiny pieces that was served was really quite a letdown. Rice was cold.
Service as always - excellent.
