Owner description: This extraordinary collection of historic art treasures, fascinating for its depth and breadth, has miraculously escaped destruction over hundreds of years. Some pieces date back to the tenth century.

weekends are most crowded but if English speaking dont miss 3:00 PM 2 hour guided tour.
In over 50 business trips to TAwian this is always on my list to squeeze in .
Be sure to see jade cabbage and 5000 year old earrings

We visited the National Palace Museum on a Saturday and as it expected it was busy with local tours. This made the experience frustrating as guided tours pushed and jostled for better vantage points. Its a great museum and pay the nt150 for the English audio but go on a weekday if you can.

We spent a whole day there, back in Dec 2011. With all the appropriate amenities possible for young & old, we enjoyed the history lessons and artifacts of Chinese anicent times

The masses of mainland Chinese tour groups spoilt the enjoyment of the top floor of the museum. Extremely busy with a lot of barging and noise. 1st and 2nd floor much more peaceful and allowed some decent time to read and to admire the treasures.

This museum, housed in a beautiful Chinese style building complex, consists of thousands of priceless pieces taken from the Forbidden City in Beijing during the cultural revolution and therefore preserved for the world to enjoy today.

The collection consists mostly of smaller items, which were easier to take out of the country, and are absolute works of art representative of centuries of splendor of the Chinese Empire.

In this "not to be missed" museum, you'll be able to enjoy art that cannot be found in China. Of special beauty complexity are pieces in their ivory and jade collections.
