“Very friendly staff but took a dislike to the cockroaches.”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

We booked before we arrived in Thailand as we had been using YHA in New Zealand. It appears NZ is far superior. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was adequate but the shower and toilet were awful. Cockroaches all over the place. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but found a lovely hotel for our second. Decided from this point on we wouldn't do budget accommodation in Thailand and haven't looked back!!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Air-co broke and I got an upgrade to an even a better room, Hostel is simple but clean and very good located. Just behind it you have a local place with Thai breakfast (50BHT) and a night market with some nice Thai restaurant. The BTS (metro station) is 3 minutes walking, 2 station from the river to get the boat to reach the historic center. The room are very small but you do not go to Bangkok to spend your time in the room anyways. The room are decorated with wood Thai ornaments. I have been traveling around in many places and believe me this place was surprisingly quiet. Did not need my ear plugs. The air-co sound covers any annoyance. Indeed the showers doors do not close but it is a double doors so when it is free it is simply open. So no-one will come in thinking it is available when you shower. The staff ask you not to keep food in the room if you do so then don't be surprised to have eventual intruders. Good value for price.

Room Tip: Take an air co room because you need it when it is 40 degrees and more than 50% humidity.

The couple that runs the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was small, we booked the budget double room. But the price was right and the location next to the BtS station was great.

Breakfast was good and for us it wasn't too loud. The walls are thing, we did not have loud neighbors, but if they talk you will hear it for sure.

The tour packages were a bit pricey so I'd book tours elsewhere. Kinda quiet around the hostel for nightlife. If you walk 5 minutes in any direction you'll find things to do. Staff were very helpful directing us around.

It's close to the skyrail, so transportation is not a problem. Noise from the skyrail however is very bad, so bring earplugs! The showers and toilets are also pretty bad, and it's not possible to close and lock the doors! And the beds are not very comfortable either. On the positive side, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and you always feel welcome.

Easy to find, next to the metro (bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper). Tiny setup with rooms just fitting a double bed. No mosquito net and a shared airconditioned with the room next door... bit weird if you want to have it colder and the neighbour is turning it off... ?

Lady at the reception was nice at checkin but she was hardly there during the day... Expensive for the quality especially the bathrooms were small and cockroaches loved them!

If you want to get mosquito bitten all night, this is the place. I saw a big cockroach in
the bathroom/shower. Rooms are like a prison cell. way too much noise. Reception guy was rude. I wanted to check out the next. day. They wouldnt give me a refund because I reserved 3 days. You have to tell them 48 hours in advance if your walk in customer.
Avoid, avoid. not worth the misery. I went to hostel nearby and it was way better and cheaper.

I stayed at YHA for a couple days at the begininng of my trip and again at the end.

The hostel itself looks very small from the outside but you will learn it actually has 5 floors. The rooms are small and clean and the sleep is comfortable. The bathrooms are communal and very small. The bathroom on the second floor was in need of some minor repair but the other floors were better. The only complaint I have about the washrooms is that there was not an electrical outlet close by for use of electric razor.

The location is ideal for people looking to explore the city because it is about 1 block away from a Skytrain station. It's also around the corner from the infamous Patpong night market. During the day you can find numerous street food vendors just around the corner where you can have delicious meals for about $1 USD. It is aslo close to banking area making it easy to access your international accounts.

This hostel is very secure, having a main door lock with key card access (turned on after midnight). Then a lobby door with keyed entry and then a deadbolt lock on the room door.

There is a small common area where you can sometimes find people playing cards or using the free wifi. The wifi is not very good in the rooms but strong in the common area. I found the hostels set up is not very condusive to a social environment, we ran into many people who were just staying for one night before going somewhere else.

The staff are very helpful in getting you around Bangkok and getting you what you need. On our last day they had no problems with us leaving our bags there for the majority of the day while we waited for flight. Most places are good to do this for a few hours but for extended periods.

Overall I recommend staying here.
