The Rice Barge Afternoon Cruise with Optional...
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 4, 2018

There were fifteen of us on this night cruise which was one of the best excursions, organised by our cruise ship, we’ve ever been on. The wooden converted rice barge was very attractive, there was plenty of room to move around, with benches along the sides and comfortable, covered chairs in the middle. Cocktails, including Mai Thais, wine, beer and soft drinks were offered and the Thai finger food and snacks were beautifully presented – especially the mini desserts in banana leaf dishes – and very tasty. It was lovely to see many of the famous buildings that we’d seen in the day, lit up at night. We were given the opportunity to learn how to fold the leaves of a lotus flower to make a basket into which we could put a candle and incense stick, light them, make a wish and let them sail away on the river. Everyone on board was very friendly and welcoming. We have no hesitation in recommending this excellent excursion.

The night view of all the temples and building along the river is very different from the day time we visit. You just need to sit tight and enjoy ! A great way to spend the night after a long and busy walk to the temple!

This was a great way to end our time in Bangkok. We got to see al the temples during the day, so it was cool to see them lit up at night. The food was pretty good with lots of options. We just enjoyed standing outside to enjoy Bangkok at night. I would try to sit up top, close to the front if I did it again. The live music was fun. The bathrooms were nice. It was very busy at the dock before we boarded (lots of other cruises happening) but we got on no problems (assigned seats). It was also easy to reserve-we got seats the day of the cruise. Fun time!

We just wanted to go on the river, but not a dinner/cruise. Chose this and it turned out to be perfect. Made our own way to Pier 2 to be picked up at 2.30 pm by a fast boat which took us down some canals off the main river. We then transferred to a Rice Barge for our trip back. Once on the barge you are offered soft drinks and exotic fruits.

Nice way to spend 3 hours.

Take the long tailed boat ride around the canals off the main river. You go through a lock which keeps the water level inside the canals rather than it rising with the tides if the river.

There are old buildings along the canal, many now in disrepair owing to the cost of restoration. Stop near the temple to feed the fish, these large fish are safe from capture by being next to the temple.
