“Best quiet place near Khoa San Road”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2012

The rooms and bedding are very clean and comfortable. WIFI is free/good signal. Shared bathrooms were clean. The staff were helpful and provided directions for using the city buses. They have free luggage storage and I left a bag with them for 2 months. For the price, this is the best value within walking distance of Khoa San. Highly recommended!

Basic amenities, but regularly cleaned. Largely reserved but smiling staff, and always helpful. The "hotel" (read: hostel) is located about 10 minutes walk away from Khao San Road, making it a great option if you want to be near the action, but not in the thick of it.

Carry the address written down on a piece of paper, or a business card, as most taxi drivers aren't familiar with this area, or at least don't expect that travellers would want to go there. The location isn't great in terms of access to the rest of the city - you'll need to take a taxi to Hua Lumphong Train Station to get anywhere else by public transport. Alternatively, it's just a short walk to the jetty for the river boat to the city centre, however the jetty closes at 6pm, and the ferry operators (much like the taxi drivers) seem a bit surprised or confused when you say that Khao San Road is NOT where your hotel is!

On the whole, good experience - would happily stay there again.

We stayed at Penpark place on two occasions during our trip to Bangkok. The first room that we got was not very good. It was a double room with a private bathroom. It was situated on the ground floor, right next to the steps and it seemed as the room was built on as an after-thought to the hotel. The fact that the room was right next to the steps meant that we were woken up by the sounds of people passing our room at all hours of the night. The fact that the doors to ALL the rooms in the hotel are made of glass painted over with black-paint didnt help with noise control. The bathroom was also dirty, with sand in the toilet.

Our second stay at the hotel was a completely different experience. The room was on the top floor (4th floor), which meant that very few people walked past and made a noise - so we slept very comfortably. The room was clean, the bathroom was MUCH cleaner!

Since we booked fairly late for our first stay, we figured that the first room we were given was the worst room of the entire hotel. It makes sense that all the best rooms get given out first and the bad ones are left for last. (My individual ratings below for service, value etc are for the SECOND room we stayed at)

The staff on duty were always so friendly and helpful. The computers were great and the wifi was good, but sometimes temperamental. The location of the hotel was great.

Overall, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Book far in advance. The hotel is almost always fully booked.

1) On cheaper end for basic stay.
2) Depending on the room, you will wake up with sounds of hundreds of birds from adjoining lawn
3) We wanted a trip to floating market but the travel agent at premise was absent. And we were disappointed that staff did not make enough effort to book our trip through different agent. Eventually, we ended up booking the trip through another hotel in the neighborhood.
4) It is in middle of old city but still far from major attractions, Khao San Road and operational ferry point stop (There is one very close but ferry did not stop there).

Stayed in a deluxe double bedroom with a/c and private bathroom, earlier this week with my boyfriend. Other cheaper accommodation was full up. Room was nice, very clean and comfy. Staff are very friendly and helpful and they all understand English ( a plus point in Thailand). Khao San Road is only 10 to 15 min away by walk. The only 2 bad points (which they didn't really matter) that I can think of are .....there was no lift in the building where our room was and wifi in the room was very poor. However internet in the reception area is free all the time.
I would definitely stay again here.

I stayed in Penpark Place in Nov. 2011, I had this hostel recommended by my friend and I wasn't disappointed. It's 15 min. walk from Khao San Road. Hostel is very simple but clean and there are no worms, bugs etc. :) We stayed in double fan room (the cheapest one), shared bathroom was also ok. Staff was very nice and helpful all the time. It's really worth recommending. I would go there again!

We have checked in the 18th December and checking out today (21/12).
The place is quiet, full of green and very close to all amenities. Rooms are clean although in three days they never stepped in to brush the floor or empty the bins.
Bad point: there is no lift in the newest building, therefore I had to climb 4 floors of stairs every time I came back (I am 5 months pregnant...that is awful after a day of sightseeing!).Breakfast is satisfactory. I am not (unfortunately) used anymore to nature, birds, and other weird animals and had to sleep with earplugs and eyemask because of the curtains...
Well, I would have never stayed in Kaosan Rd which is horrible, full of people, noise, loud music each meter and bad food.

Next stop: Chiang Mai by train tonight. I will write a post on that too.

Ciao!

Room Tip: We stayed in the newest of the two building of the place. No lift!
