“Amazing hotel with breathtaking views!”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

Anyone who complains about this hotel must be crazy!!! My husband and I thought Bangkok was too crazy for us (after arriving from Krabi anywhere in the world would be!) but Lebua @ State Tower was a blissful paradise away from the traffic and chaos. From the minute we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by half a dozen staff, all very attentive with our luggage and happy to guide us to where we could sit to wait to be checked in. We were taken up to our gorgeous riverview room (which was a huge 1 bedroom apartment!) and we were even given a delicious mini cake as we were celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. The balcony views were unbelieveable!!!
The concierge was very informative and helpful with where to go to eat and how to get to the train station. They were always reminding us to be cautious of people that may try to mislead us out in the street, which would be very helpful for people that are not used to travelling and could easily be swayed by dishonest people. It was lovely to see that they cared.
Bottled water was free - as much as you wanted. The breakfast was AMAZING. You could eat anything you wanted, sushi, pancakes, eggs, yum cha, carvery, fresh made croissants, etc, the choices were never ending and the service was 5 star from the minute you arrived at the restaurant to the minute you left.
My husband and I never had any problems with crowded lifts or spaces at the hotel. This hotel is huge and it has definitely been staffed to ensure you get 5 star treatment.
We had dinner at the poolside restaurant one night and the staff were great with explaining the menu and helping us select lovely thai dishes. They were small in size but thai food is meant to be eaten by ordering a range of plates and sharing. Just delicious.
The rooftop bars are just amazing. Having a cocktail up there taking in the views was just breathtaking! Again there are so many attentive staff you always have that wonderful service.
We booked a private car to the airport for our departure. My husband had booked the Camry but it seems that they were unable to provide one and had booked a Mercedes instead. Needless to say that my husband was over the moon being driven to the aiport in the Mercedes and we just wanted to say thank you to the Concierge staff for making the arrangements. It was truly 5 star service that the car we booked wasn't available and they ensured we had a car no matter what and with no delay to us. We will definitely return to this hotel in the future. The service at this hotel from ALL staff made our first trip to Bangkok memorable and an absolute pleasure! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Room Tip: We chose a riverview room. I think any room at this hotel would be just as amazing though

We booked to stay at the Lebua State Tower based on reviews on Tripadvisor.

The first impression of the hotel are good, the entry is manned by lots of staff and our bags were immediately taken off of our hands. The lobby is small/cramped but grand in decor, we were check-in on the sofa and were given a hotel flannel and a drink (always a good start).

During check-in we were informed that the pool was closed due to maintenance and because of this we were upgrade to a Tower Club suite on the 54th floor and offered to have a car arranged to take us to a sister hotel if we wanted to swim.

Our suite was a nice surprise, a large living room with several tables and sofas, a well equipped kitchen and a large bathroom. The bedroom itself was spacious and had a balcony that came off it it, the balcony has unbelievable views of Bangkok.

The Lebua breakfast was pretty good, with everything on offer from a cooked breakfast to sushi, large fruit choice ect. If you don't want the Lebua breakfast there is a Starbucks in the same building.

The tower itself is very odd, you can walk through the lobby of the hotel and out into an enormous dark atrium and an almost empty shopping centre and lifts that take office workers up into the tower. It's very odd and quite sad, a sign of an economic boom that never really delivered.

I would recommend the Lebua as a great city hotel, however it wont be our first hotel of choice when we're next in Bangkok.

Room Tip: Highest floor possibly, river view.

We stayed at Lebua for the first two nights of our honeymoon. They upgraded our room to a lovely suite and even gave us a delicious cake to share.
We don't really frequent 5 star hotels so our opinion is probably a little rose tinted but nevertheless we thought the hotel was extremely nice. The breakfast was epic and the service from staff was brilliant.
The only minor issue arose when we paid. We booked through booking.com and our email confirmation clearly stated the amount we would pay. Lebua eventually accepted this but then called me back down to the front desk for the 3rd time (we paid the night before we left) to tell me that I needed to pay an additional 10% service charge. We had a lengthy but friendly debate which ended when the duty manager told me he would get in trouble if we did not pay the service charge. I paid it but given that I had an email which was very clear as to what I was to pay I feel they could have dealt with this differently. Anyway, this isn't really complaint as we loved Lebua. Think of it more of a warning should you book through booking.com.
The next morning we left at 4am and they made up two huge breakfast packs to take with us.

We're currently lying by the pool waiting for our late flight home so thought it worth describing our stay briefly. Our time in bangkok has been great, the hotel however disappointed us overall and the points that matter can't be related to points out of 5.

The hotel itself is well located, well staffed and cheaper than its other 5 star competitors like The Peninsula and Shagri-La. The breakfast cannot be faulted and views from the balcony unbeatable.

It feels however that this hotel was built to house 2 restaurants and bars with amazing views. In order to state the Sirrocco restaurant is the highest alfresco dining experience in the world they have built a massive 5 star hotel that lacks the finer touches. It seems petty but people wanting a 5 star stay should expect an entrance that doesn't have you walk down an awkward side alley past a sleeping security guard in his box, enough pool towels for the 30 crammed in beds, a pool with something resembling a view and a room that doesnt feel like a surprise upgrade in the travel lodge.

The Peninsula and The Shangri-Lla provide better value for food and drink and aren't crammed with people coming to take in the views. The lifts to our room between 6pm and midnight were an inevitable sardine tin squeeze.

Overall, It's a low end 5 star hotel but decent value. It just seems the finer touches all headed upstairs to making the bars the best they can be.

Lebua is awesome! We arrived late a night and the staff checked us in while we relaxed in the hotel lounge, very nice after traveling for over 20 hours. We were also upgraded to a gorgeous suite with four balconies!! The staff at Lebua is also fantastic, very accommodating and friendly! Thank you so much for an awesome time in Bangkok, we will stay at Lebua again!!

Wow - what a room! We were so delighted with the size, comfort and amenities of our suite at Lebua!
The suite was fitted with a huge bathroom, mini-kitchen, living room with t.v. and a comfortable king-size bed.
Breakfast was delicious with more options than you could possibly imagine! Oven-baked homemade croissants and breads, endless choice of juices, sweet and salty options from various types of cuisines.
Perfectly located, very close to both the sky-train and river.
We booked dinner at Sirocco, which is in the State Tower, which had phenomenal views
looking over Bangkok, a super trendy bar and great live jazz.
The only kink in this wonderful experience, was that 2 weeks prior to arriving, we requested for a late check-out (free of charge according to their regulations), since we had a late flight, which was confirmed by a hotel employee that it would be free of charge via email - to later find out upon arrival that this was not possible.
The manager's response was very dishonest as he confirmed that there were no more rooms available to accommodate our request. However, we could pay 50% of the suite price if we wished to check-out late. So, they clearly had available rooms (the hotel has hundreds of them) but they did not want to honor the previously agreed arrangement with us and the hotel regulations. We even brought a print-out copy of the email where the late check out was granted. They just wanted to get more money out of us. They could not provide us with a valid, sincere or satisfactory explanations.
Nonetheless, no doubt in our mind next time we pass through Bangkok, we'll be staying at Lebua.

I have stayed at the Lebua about 10 times. It is still the best hotel in Bangkok offering amazing views over the city and wonderful service. My only criticisms are that they need to have lifts dedicated to guests only as you can wait for ages to get a lift to your room because of the all the people visiting the bars in the evening. My other criticism is about the dress code for the bars. Whilst I am respectful of dress codes I really feel they discriminate between men and women. My husband had a nice pair of expensive leather sandals on with long pants and was not allowed in so he changed and put his old jogging shoes on and was allowed in. When we eventually went inside there was a girl wearing denim shorts that went half way up her backside, thongs and a singlet top. She looked like she had been gardening! I think they need to make their dress code equal for men and women. Regardless of all this I love the Lebua and would recommend it to everyone.
