“Good value hotel, could use updating”
Reviewed 12 January 2012

Ramada D’MA hotel- Nice staff but the hotel needs to be updated a bit. Good value though as we only
paid $50 USD per night. The complimentary breakfast was very good. Beware that in Thailand, many
hotel concierges receive commission (as do taxi drivers and tuk tuk drivers) for sending you to certain
places so you can’t always trust their recommendations. Do your research beforehand to avoid being
misled.

My partner and I stayed at this beautiful hotel in December 2011. It was wonderful. Location is good, everything is walking distance, hotel staff are friendly and very helpful and the hotel itself is clean and neat. I think it is great value for money and gay friendly!! Would return anytime

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front of the hotel- you get a view of Bangkok

It's in a good location with easy access to major shopping, cultural and entertainment centres. It is a large and busy hotel with all that entails. Staff are mostly friendly and helpful, with front of house perhaps a little cooler and less helpful than other staff.

The food is good, the rooms are nice, if a little dated. Bathrooms and beds are more than adequate. We found it easier to ask the hotel staff to find a meter taxi for us than deal with the many dodgy cabs and tuk tuks roaming the vicinity.

The only downside it the view of a concrete wall which is what we were told 'you get' if you pay for a 'superiour room".

Still would recommend - it's a comfortable, if slightly impersonal base for Bangkok exploration

Room Tip: If you want a 'room with a view', make sure in advance that that is what you are getting

well, the location of the hotel is very strategic. is very convenient to go everywhere in the city.
the service of this hotel is extremely bad, i had a bad experience at this hotel. when we request for the cable adaptor, it was not sent by the room service people, they will tell you, "please come and take whatever you want in front office, we are not going to deliver it to you"; when we go and take the adaptor at front office, they will not speak to you and just give you a official receipt, "for your information, if you lost the adaptor, we are going to charge you 150bath"; we borrow sicissor from them, they just laugh at us and said, "please give back the scissors to us right after you finished, otherwise we will charge you also".... WTH, we were very angry when we heard that.

the food of the hotel is not that fantastic also, everyday we are having same food for my breakfast, the worst thing is, they will chase the guest out after 10am. there waitress will take a bell and rang there told you that they are going to close soon, no matter you finished your food or not, start from 10am, they will not replenish anything and start cleaning the table. for me, that is very rude and not fit for 4 star hotel. sharp at 11am, no matter you are still there or not, they will straight away turn off all the lights and no bother you anymore. terrible service.

when we request to check out before 1pm instead of 12pm, they straight away tell us, "even you check out 1min after 12pm, we will charge you 1000baht..." we are speechless when we heard that, anyway, we are not going to stay at the hotel anymore.

Room Tip: better go for others hotel

It is an old hotel, and the rooms are outdated and look tired.
The lobby is not attractive. The breakfast is average but selection are decent and food are palatable. But at US60 , it is a good value hotel. The draw is the free transfer to Airport Link Makkasson Station, 5 minutes away, and the free shuttle to the Central World. It is good for a stopover place en route to other destination in Thailand. Just don't expect too much, you will have a good time here.

Booked this hotel based partly on a combination of general reviews. The first impression upon entering the hotel and the room were OMG WTF! It was a 70s style hotel (minus the glamour of the 70s) with a DDD (drab, desolate, depressing) ambience to it.

Location: This is the only relatively decent characteristic of this hotel. It’s located within a (big) radius of the city centre. But unlike previous reviews that raved its location, I didn’t understand what was SO great about it. The nearest metro station (BTS Chidlom) is a 15-20 minute walk away. The best option of travelling around (and it is quite cheap) is by metered taxi, which you can get from any hotel anyway.

Room: We booked a standard room. It was decently spacious but so drab! The carpet was dark and smelt rank. Luckily, we were busy experiencing the best of Bangkok (cultural history and shopping) to only use the room to sleep in. Still, you’d expect much better from a Ramada in a well-known city like Bangkok.

And please do have a look at one of the images I uploaded, which was supposed to be a hot-water kettle for making tea/coffee. Apart from the fact that one of its indicators was damaged, it took a while to figure out how to use this ancient device. Refer to image 1.

Also, we paid for a room on a higher floor. Unfortunately, the windows had finger (and yes, even nose) marks all over it. Spoke to the concierge on two occasions (because the reception staff were busy) who said it would be cleaned but it never was. Refer to image 2.

Bathroom: Modest, with a toilet, bath tub, shower cubile and decent sized sink. No complaints there…except for what I believe to be their ‘recycling enforcement’ policy. They provide 2 bottles of water complimentary and ask that the empty bottles be left back by the sink…fair enough. But, what I didn’t appreciate (having seen alternate and much better messages at other hotels) was the wording of the message. Refer to image 3.

Corridors: While on the subject of the smell, there was an electric ‘scent’ machine in the hotel corridors which I suppose they used to keep the corridors smelling fresh. Hotel management definitely needs to review what scents to use as it just made the air smell really heavy and bad.

Pool: There’s a roof top pool which we used once and found it alright. Tried it just once. Good way to cool off, especially in the evenings.

Breakfast: We mostly concentrated on the cereals and pastries. Hot buffet meals and curries were the same each and every day and did not taste particularly good. Limited (good) choice for vegetarians.

Staff: With the exception of the concierges, the front-desk staff seemed a little distant, which is not meant to be a complaint, but they could do with a smile when talking to clients.

The issue I did have was when checking out. It was very early in the morning and I asked the man at the reception to get a metered cab for me. When the cab arrived, he told me that since it was early morning it was a fixed fee to the airport. When I accepted and had the bags put in the boot, I saw money being exchanged between the cab driver and the receptionist. It struck me then that the ‘early morning story’ was nonsense and that I should have just gotten a cab myself. Such open profiteering behaviour does not bode well for Ramada, which is supposed to be an international name.

Overall impression: Believe it or not, I believe in giving benefit of doubt. But I just could not at this place. It lacks poorly in ambience and attitude. Its location is good, but in no way is a selling point. Very 70s and dreary.

Room Tip: If you must stay at this hotel, ask for a room on a higher floor (25 upwards) but ensure that the wi...
