Usually most of the restaurants are closing at 10:30 pm in Bangkok at this season.
So by mistake we arrived to the JP's at 10:25 and they were about to close too, but when the owner saw out daughter ( 8 y.o.) he let us in.
The place is rather small with very nice atmosphere , while you stay there you forget that you are actually in Bangkok ,Thailand and not in France.
The meal was also very good prepared.Fresh baguette with butter, great duck meat ...
Shortly we had great late dinner thanks to the nice french man that owns the place ...
If You tired of Thai and other oriental food in Bangkok ,highly recommended !!!!

We read the rave reviews and booked this place for a special night out because we love French cuisine and it would be a nice change from Thai food which we also love but have been eating every day since we arrived.

First the positives:
JP is a very friendly warm host who made an effort to chat to us and make us feel comfortable. The rest of the staff were friendly too.
The traditional French food was executed well. The meal started off with very nice amuse-bouches that weren’t expected. So that was a nice surprise.
The boeuf en croute was good, the meat was tender, and the accompanying pomme saladaise were tasty enough. The chocolate fondant was excellent, baked to perfection with a crisp outside and a gooey centre.

The negatives:
The ambience, furniture and lighting don’t provide a cosy dining atmosphere. Alarm bells rang when we saw the bright neon sign outside and realised this isn’t a cosy French bistro.
The prices are on the high side and don’t fit the environment. You’re paying fine dining prices for a meal in an old fashioned sports bar environment with bright unflattering lighting, football tops adorning the walls and guys on bar stools right next to you.

We paid 3,000 baht for 2 mains, one dessert, 2 glasses of wine and a coffee.
We had lunch at a Michelin star restaurant at the Kempinski the day before at almost the same price.

All in all we did have a good meal, and appreciated the service and attention, but it wasn’t what we expected for a special occasion. It’s not the restaurant’s fault as they couldn’t have done more for us. We got the wrong impression because of the reviews on here, and the prices we saw on the website indicated a more elevated dining experience.

Service 5/5
Food 4/5
Atmosphere 2/5

Dear DaiseyWhite

First of all, thank you for your 4/5 notification,it's for me a very good one

I'm very happy that you appreciate the food ,the service and even my "effort" to talk with you.it was not an effort,i'm always happy to talk with everybody.

About the atmosphere, ok it's not a fine dining restaurant and we never said that. It's a french bistrot with Two Differents ambiance,
first floor is the bar with some tables for relaxing atmosphere and chat between the people, and believe me,most of customers like this stage for convivality and want to eat there..

Upstairs ,we have a more confidential room with about 30 seats for those who prefer to have a more quiet and romantic diner, and nothing to do with a sport bar....Even downstairs,i don't think we can compare to a sport bar...no tv screen and only some old,and historic RUGBY jersey, that's all.

About the prices,we are NET price and no +++ compare to many other places
don't forget that your beef wellington ( 2 ) is from australian first quality of meat and i really think at this price we are the more cheap in town, with "pommes sarladaises" and foie gras sauce..1 dessert and 2 glasses of wine + coffee...really nobody complaint about the price

Anyway Thanks for coming and take time to review us,
all the best
best regards
JP

First time I am taking the time to write a review. Based in Asia for nearly 10 years and French native, this is the place where I find all the "ingredients" which make me feel back home for the food, the atmosphere for whom are homesick or amateur of french authentic cusine. You can make sure you will have a enjoyable and relax real french food experience. I would not recommend any dish in particulare as you would not be dissapointed with any of your choice. I had the chance to taste all kind of french restaurant in asia but this is on many points my favorite place. This restaurant managed by the incontournable, chaleureux and unique JP will make your day! From the moment you open the door you understand you will spend and amazing time for the atmosphere and the food. This is the reason I write this review as I believe anyone going or staying in Bangkok should go there if you like French cuisine, this is one experience on your 'to do list" and you will understand the meaning once you try it. Chapeau l'artiste! and thanks to you and your Team for the happines your provide to you regulars or one time customers. I will be back!! Fred

Wow what a hidden little Gem in Bangkok, went for lunch with girlfriend and mother and we all really enjoyed the amazing food, Frogs legs beautiful, Snails where Great, The Giant scallops AMAZING, that sauce is award winning, The Beef Wellington(i have tried unsuccessfully to make several times) the best i have Ever had, the steak was so tender the pastry cooked perfectly and once again an award winning sauce, the salmon risotto, Fantastic, we could not fault a single thing, wish i had found this place earlier in our holiday so we could have gone back again, Highly recommend AAA+
