This place could be great if the staff was friendly. The rooms are very basic and good value for the money you are spending. However, it is very clear that the staff does not care about you. The daytime staff is a bit better than the 2 very unfriendly guys who work night shift. The rooms are fairly clean and I was never bothered by noise. If you are a budget traveler who is only looking for a cheap no frills room, this could be a good option for you.

Stayed there 7 nights, and all was fine more or less, except the few times we had to deal with the staff... You really feel like you deal with idiots that don't give a s*** about you. Too bad for what could be a good place to stay. Bed was big and comfortable, shower working good enough, aircond, fan , room big enough and cheap for bangkok. We've had a few bites on the body on the last days, they were small but pretty itchy... bed bugs? not sure, if that was they were small... We went back in Bangkok and didn't stay there again. You can find same or better really close by.

The street is full of nice little local bars, not to miss. I think this area is great for backpacking accomodation, better than Khao San Rd, way too touristy. Check next doors and this hotel, compare, and you'll find your perfect accomodation.

Room tip: Try to get the first or 2nd floor if you don't like going up the stairs, ours war 4th floor, going up and down all the time (staff is not helpful with that, as everytime you need something, they make you go up and down a few times before they try do something)

This is one of many Guest Houses along the road behind the Wat and KSan road. I sometimes stay at other places but they were full so I tried this place.

Overall I am very happy with the room, stayed here 4 nights. I got a single with bath (non-air con) that has hot and cold shower for 280B a night. Very quiet up here on the 4th floor (facing the river, not the Wat).

What I also like about this place is the the doors are secure. About 50% of the rooms actually have deadbolts while the other 50% have very study knob locks and a metal bar on the door so its near impossible to get this open without a key.

Many other guest houses nearby just have the flimsy, cheap door knobs that could be easily opened (and look like they have) and so you need to bring all your valuables with you whenever you leave.

Plus, they have lockers downstairs (opposite reception desk) that require two keys to open (you use your own lock and they keep a master one at reception). At a cost of 10B a day, its good value.

The food here was ok, nothing exceptional, except the fresh made baguettes.

The have computers downstairs for internet and wifi available (in the rooms) for 60B for 24hrs. Not blazing fast but very adequate for email and surfing "lightly".

I found the staff very friendly and would happily stay here again.

Room tip: I noticed in the previous reviews some people complained of having a room with no fresh air. Make sure you check out several rooms first, mine (404) had lots of natural light and fresh air.

I stayed in a double non aircon room with a friend. Up on the sixth floor. The climb was a little tiring but it was worth it for the price.
My only quibble is that the room was rather stuffy and there was no window opening out.

On the whole 180bhat for a double room so close to Khao San but distant enough to be peaceful is perfect.

Merry V Guesthouse (Found on the backside of Rambutri, not on Phra Athit) is a clean and basic room kind of place. For 170B and no key deposit a single bed in a small room with light and fan is offered. Extras (but not always) include a wall hook for a towel, a rubbish bin, and a small stand.

If you are looking for an affordable room in the Khao San area with expectations set around a secure place for your bags that you can also sleep in, then this is a good choice.

Clean shared bathrooms. Don't forget to bring a towel, soap, and toilet paper.

Friendly English speaking staff.

Restaurant and internet in lobby. WiFi is not Free.
