We travelled down the off beat canal route for 1.5 hours, and it was wonderful. Past a monastery and the monks sold us bread to feed the cat fish, of a large size. We past the palace, and various hospitals, and banks. I certainly would recommend the trip.

The Khlongs have the river boat network connecting some main areas of the city with the Chao Praya River. This is one of the cheapest modes of transport in the city though crowded and slightly uncomfortable during peak hours. If you are looking for offbeat non touristy mode of travel, this is the one you should try.

If you've been living 20 years in Bangkok. Only what is bugging me is the TIME. I've spent hudreds of times with river boats that travel thru out Bangkok Khlongs (water canals). If you are lucky you may find map and plan your trip ahead where to go. You'll save hours and hours of time, no matter where you plan to go. I recommend this to those who DON'T fear water and can swim, I never had accident but always good , reliable, fast connection between point a to point B. Certain times of year the Khlong (canal) may smell crazy bad, Take it as it comes and try little adventure.

See website khlongsaensaep.com. Great way to get around Bangkok and see another side of the city you don’t get to see on the streets. Cheap and quick. Be mindful that it’s not the easiest to get on and off these boats but there always seems a helping hand by boat staff and fellow passengers.

No quicker way to ghet across Bangkok than by boat on the klongs. Apart from that there is not so much to see, it is a bit the backside of town. The water can be smelly in the dryer season.
