After trying a few budget accomodation options in BK I now always head back to Tavee. Over 16 or 17 years I've never had any problems. It's pretty quiet and a great place to meet other travellers for a beer.

Not the cheapest in Bangkok, but it's a good value for the price. The place is very clean and you can enjoy a nice indoor garden. Food is also not bad at all. It's located in Thewet area, wich is a really nice place to stay in town. Not too far, but quite peacefull.

This place was very clean but I think it was a bit expensive for the room we got (fan, shared bathroom). I think we paid 500 baht for the room which got us an AC room with private bathroom in a budget guesthouse on Pra Athit road. The staff waited up for our very late arrival after coming from the airport which was nice.

We stayed at Tavee twice this summer and loved it! First of all the location is great in the old town near all the places to visit. It's also about 20 minutes from Khao San Road by foot. The location is really calm, staff is always helpful and concerned. The restaurant is probably the best one I ever tried in a guesthouse, and cheaper than some in the streets. The rooms can be a bit noisy but overall everything is clean and comfy. It's probably the best price/quality value you can get in Bangkok. I would definitely go there next time.

Well located and not expensive, this spot is quite good if you want to discover Thewet and Kao San road.
You can also spend some time to relax among flowers, an aquarium and birds singing, far from the hustle and bustle of Bsangkok.

2 drawbacks: not enough bathrooms and toilets / not a strong feeling of intimacy as some rooms have walls communicating with the main corridor.

Tips: access to city centre by taxi to Phaya Thai and then take the BTS. Good cruise on the Prays from Thewet pier.
Excellent massala tea at Tong bar, just next to the 7 Eleven.
Outstanding massages for only 180TBH on Samsen Road, south after Wisut Kasat Road (there is a sign "free tea and smiles")
