I had always stayed in "Back Packers Lodge Guest House" on the same little soi as Tavee.
The old one had gone but lucky for me because next door at Tavee the people are sooo much nicer. Honestly Jane and her family fall over themselves trying to accommodate guests. I work in a tourist resort so i'm quite surprised that after so many years the family still finds it within themselves to help beyond what they should be obligated to do. Their warm personalities are reflected in their staff as well. And everything is always clean and tidy. The neighborhood is fantastic as well. A handful of useful shops and internet cafe's on Sri Ayuthay road and neighboring on the well known
Banglamphoo food market. Walk through the market and cross the canal , turn right and your a stones throw from The Tavee pier of the riverboat service. Back on Sri Ayuthaya road, it's a very short walk to Samsen road. Being on Sri Ayuthaya road means that though its a bit far to walk your in a straight line to BTS Payathai station which is also the link for the Airport rail.
I will never look for another place to stay in BKK

I was here about a year ago and felt at home in this tucked away, clean guest house. They have a great spirit house in the front, an adorable shitzu with a better hairstyle than me and make some amazing banana fritters you'll want to eat everyday.

The rooms themselves are small but clean, comfy and cute. And best of all it's really convenient for so many things in the city. Accessible by taxi, walking through Banglampoo and water taxi.

I'll be staying here every trip to Bangkok!

Favorite place in Bangkok! The staff is extra nice and the location is really beautiful. It is very clear. It is not close to the BTS, but have the ferry 10 minutes walk and the staff helps you with the bus. One thing you should know before coming here: It a very calm place, if you seek party rather kind something at Khao San ;) The wifi does not work al the time very well...

This guest house meets all my criteria. It is owned by a family, it is small, it is quiet, it is easy reachable by taxi, bus or boat, it is not expensive (450thb to 750 thb) and they have wifi! Plus it is 20min walk from Kao San road if you want some entertainment or fix a meeting point with friends.

I spent three nights last month. The room was spacious and pretty. The walls seemed to be a bit thin, though. The women at the receptionist were not always very friendly, however. Nice neighborhood. Recommended.

We loved Tavee Guesthouse from the moment we found its little alleyway. It is a perfect 20 minute walk from the super touristy areas - very convenient to get to places like the Grand Palace, but away from the noise of Khao San Road. There are a few very friendly staff, and a few less-warm staff (but we thought maybe they were just tentative about speaking English - they weren’t rude or anything). We were lucky enough to be there during the guesthouse’s annual monk’s blessing, and the guesthouse provided a delicious, free Thai feast to the guests in celebration. It was lovely. :)

Things we liked:
-Clean, simple rooms
-Good location
-Great food: breakfasts were always delicious, albeit a tiny bit expensive when compared to what you could get on the street; and the Thai dinner we had there one night was great.
-Beautiful, quiet courtyard where you eat your meals, have a beer, or just hang out.

Things we didn’t like:
-While it’s a quiet guesthouse, you can hear literally every noise coming from other rooms. This is because at the top of the wall of all of the fan rooms, there’s just a screen between the room and the hallway (no actual wall). When someone opens their door, it sounds like they’re opening your door; when someone is whispering in the room across from yours, you can basically hear it. We used earplugs and it was fine, but it was still irritating to feel like we had zero privacy.
-While the bed was huge, the top sheet was tiny (it didn’t cover the two of us). Just ask for an extra sheet if there are two of you.
-Like most places in Thailand, the shower is in a combined little area with the toilet. If you’re in a room with the shared bathrooms, you have to walk onto what is usually the wet bathroom floor with your bare feet (as shoes are supposed to be left outside). This may not bother everyone, but it always bothers me - maybe bring flip-flops if you think that’d bother you.

Room Tip: Stay in an aircon room if noise bothers you.
