“good location and clean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2012

Good hotel in the center of town. Right in the middle of the Sunday night market ( different than the Chiang Mai night market which is daily). About a 15 min walk to the nightly market. Free wifi, breakfast is std fare for SE Asia. Rooms were good, though a bit dark. Clean bathroom. Our room had a loveseat which we turned to butt up against the foot of the Queen bed, to make it a bed for our 4 yr old. Saves paying for an extra bed or cott, and he couldnt roll off. No pool, but we wandered to the Centara Duangtawan Hotel and swam in their pool up on the 5th floor, which worked fine because the nightly street market was a half block away.

Room Tip: Sunday night stay well worth it because of the location. Avoid rooms over the bar.

Amazing location, could not have asked for a better location with this hotel, pretty much spot on location wise. Right next to the Old Town wall and also for the weekend market.

Also, good to get free wifi and breakfast.

Rooms a bit dated, but were clean and comfortable. However, bathrooms were a bit small and dingy.

Service was generally fine, staff were helpful (especially the security guards!) Also, they allowed us to check in early.

An excellent hotel in the centre of Chiang Mai right opposite the historic Thapae Gate. Beautiful rooms, really friendly and helpful staff and an excellent restaurant. Free wi-fi. No swimming pool.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view room, that way you will not be on the street side as the traffic is busy and...

I originally booked one night at Hotel M before a trip but ended up staying 4 more nights when I came back. It's a fairly standard business hotel but for the luxury of air conditioning, warm (not hot) water, wifi, room service and a good restaurant to say nothing of its prefect location - it was an affordable luxury.

There was some confusion and frustration at trying to extend my stay at the front desk for the same internet rate so would recommend extending your stay online if necessary to save a lot of hassle.

This is a very nice hotel as long as you don't stay on the street side. If you stay on that side of the hotel, the street noise is loud and goes on all night long.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side should be avoided at all costs.

I found this hotel very conveniently located, very polite and warm and helpful people working there, and it was clean and appropriate. The first nights were in a room on the second floor; later I returned and stayed on the 5th floor. The 5th floor was the nicest and the price was very good. I would recommend the hotel - but not the attached restaurant. For the price, it was a very good hotel for me.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room on the 5th floor.

Stayed at Montri Hotel ( M Hotel as it's known now) for 4 nights. Getting my taxi to find the hotel wasn't difficult as it is right in front of Tha Phae gate. Check- in was seamless as the receptionist can understand simple English. And all this while the bell hop/ security guy was there to help us with our baggage.
Free wifi throughout the hotel, just get the wifi password coupon from the reception. 1 coupon per device at a time. Just let them know you need more if you have to log into your laptop and smartphone.
Stayed in a deluxe room on the 5th floor, room was pretty small, but cozy. I guess it was because of the soft yellow lightings in the room. Amenities, was really basic and nothing to shout about. Here's my detail breakdown:
Water boiler: No
Iron facilities: No
Clock: No
Bathroom amenities: 1 shower cap, cotton bud, shampoo and body soap are in a dispenser on the wall.
Stocked mini bar: Yes
In room safe: Yes
In room slipper: Yes
Full length mirror: Yes
Wardrobe : Yes ( 4 hangers only)
What I really loved are the number and varieties of TV programme avaliable. English, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Sports, and of course cartoons for the younger ones.
Water pressure was okay, but the hot water supply was quite inconsistent. Several occasion, I have to dance in and out of the water as the water changes between very cold and very hot in a split second.
If you are a light sleeper, do AVOID rooms that faces the city. noise from the speeding tuk-tuks, motorcycles, cars will wake you up early in the morning. And night-time, you will find it difficult to sleep early with all the road noise and music from the pubs nearby. Within the hotel, you will find the DHL, a Forex counter (they offer very good rate!), vehicle rental and tour package available (30% discount for hotel guest). BRIX, the F&B outlet, serves all meal and closes late around midnight. No buffet breakfast, but you can choose between, American, European, Continental and Asian choice.
The hotel also provide a mini van to the airport for 80baht per person, no choice since there is no free transfer and taking a taxi or the songthaew is definitely more than 160baht for the 2 of us.
Just like what some of the other reviewers mentioned, the staff are friendly and helpful, especially the security guard that never fails to smile and offer assistance.
Out of the hotel on your right, you'll be able to find the Thai Post Office, 7-11, pubs, bank and coffee house. On the left about 2-4mins walk, you will find a market that sells spices and poultry during the day. Just abit further up, you will find pharmacy, local noodle stores, street hawker (night only), optical shop and 7-11.
Sunday market is just in front of the hotel itself. Saturday market is about 10-15mins ride/drive from the hotel. Night bazaar is only 5-8mins away from the hotel.
Overall, I will definitely return for my next Chiang Mai trip.
