Pretty much like the title says, we checked in on Friday to stay until Monday, Saturday they said we have to check out Sunday because some agency overbooked the hotel... They offered us a room at their other hotel which was a small consolation because it was outside of town...

Just inside theThapae Gate of the old city and off an alley I started to have some trepidation as we we approached our hotel. That trepidation was very quickly replaced with relief, splendor and amazement at this little gem. Situated close to everything and virtually steps away from the famous night market, the location could not have been better. The hotel surrounds a courtyard with an infinity pool and restaurant adjacent to the lobby and pool. The hotel is relatively new and our room reflected the beautiful design and modern conveniences you would expect from pricier hotels. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had problems with wireless internet but it was not the hotel's fault. When it was up and running it was quite fast for Chiang Mai. All in all I would highly recommend thid hotel and will be visiting again soon.

Room Tip: Try to get a room pon the top floor facing pool

My 14 year old son and I spent three fantastic days in Chiang Mai and the Vieng Mantra was a big part of our fabulous vacation. It is a small place, less than 30 rooms I believe. We took a taxi from the airport and the driver had no problems finding it - he went straight there. We arrived early at about 9:30am from Bangkok. The hotel was full and our room was still occupied so we dropped off our bags and went out for a late breakfast elsewhere which was lovely. When we returned a couple hours later our room was available and ready, so the cleaning staff turned it around quickly. We were delighted with our room - very clean, very comfortable. Flat screen TV, wireless internet, comfortable bed, good shower with plenty of hot water and a small balcony overlooking the azure blue pool. The young lady at the reception spoke good English and helped us arrange two different trips on two days to the Flight of the Gibbons on one day and to an elephant park, trekking, waterfall and rafting on another day. Our third day I had already arranged from Bangkok. We had the breakfast buffet everyday which was tasty, filling and delightful. The coffee was the BEST! If coffee is good I drink it black and the coffee here was delicious. Breakfast food was hot and there are tables to eat outside among their beautiful flowers and greenery. Really very pleasant! Location is very convenient, we walked everywhere we needed to go including watching Man U and Chelsea battle to a 3-3 tie one evening. Thai boxing stadium is also close by - don't miss it! I absolutely loved Chiang Mai, will definitely go back and will definitely stay always at the Vieng Mantra. HIGHLY recommend it!!

We chose this hotel after seeing their website and reading some good reviews on tripadvisor. I'll say that the location is absolutely fantastic.
The hotel *is* pretty gorgeous, it's as if someone with a vision bought it/did it up and then moved on. The staff are nice enough but have probably not had any real hospitality training, so it has the feel like it's being run by teenagers.
The room was also very pretty, but the bed was ROCK HARD. We have a firm bed at home but this sent our arms to sleep and bruised our hips. It felt like wooden floorboards covered with a blanket. While one of the hotel staff did try to help us be more comfortable by placing a couple of quilts under the bottom sheet, the bed got the best of us in the end and we cut our losses and had to move to another hotel (we still had 3 nights left that we had prepaid, just to give you a good idea of how uncomfortable we were).
The breakfast we prepaid for was incredibly basic- the same few dishes with a rotating one each morning. Cold, undercooked poached eggs- yuk. The dishes that the food were kept in had unlit burners underneath.
We sent our laundry out - one item didn't come back. We asked twice about it and someone went to get it. Then we sent more laundry out, and when it came back it had some guy's jeans, shorts and trousers mixed in with our clothes.
This was our big holiday for the year and this hotel was very disappointing.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else if you want a good night's sleep.

Very helpful and friendly staff who were able to recommend and organise trips. We arrived a day early over the busy Christmas period and the staff happily found us a room for one night in their sister hotel. Very clean and modern rooms. We stayed in a superior room which was on the far side of the hotel so faced towards the pool and did not pick up any noise from the street. However it's such a quiet street off the main road that I would imagine even those that do face onto the street would not be too loud. Also really great location near the Tha Pae gate and just off one of the main roads through the old town. Perfect location for the Sunday walking market. Make sure you spend a Sunday evening in Chiang Mai to experience this. Much more enjoyable than the nightly bazaar and packed with locals as well as tourists. It is still possible to get rooms in Chiang Mai for much less money than this hotel - but if you are looking for comfort and home-from-home I recommend the Vieng Mantra.

Husband & I are on our third night of a 4 night stay at Vieng Mantra. After a lot of research & reading reports on trip advisor I booked this hotel as we wanted somewhere with character, at a reasonable price & good standard. Vieng Mantra ticks all of the boxes. It is absolutely delightful & everything I expected. Our plane was delayed by 3 hrs but the hotel driver was waiting for us and promptly delivered us to the hotel. Don't be put off when you arrive in a small back lane at the hotel, once you step inside you find yourself in an oasis. The location is fantastic, a quiet little lane but so close to everything. Thai Phei gate is just around the corner, as is the Sunday night walking market. An 80 baht tuk tuk ride to night bazaar and to the river. I recommend wandering aimlessly through all of the little lanes around the old city, you will find cheap massage & some great little bars. It is very safe to walk at night, locals are very friendly. Just outside the entrance to the hotel are some great massage places. 200 baht for 1 hour Thai massage or aromatherapy massage. The hotel is immaculate, we are in a superior room on third floor overlooking pool. The staff are great, young and happy, eager to please. Food in the hotel restaurant is very good & cheap. Beers 40-60 baht, cocktails 100 baht. Lots of good eateries close by, so much to choose from. Our room is large enough with a lovely day bed by the window, also a day bed on the balcony ( where I am sitting with a glass of wine as I write this review). Free wifi in the room is a bonus. Overall, I highly recommend Vieng Mantra, while it is quite a new building the Lan style gives you a sense of the culture with all the modern amenities. When I return to Chang Mai I will be staying here.
