“home from home but WAY nicer!”
Reviewed 23 January 2011

this place is a gem. the owner - ma sing sing - basically takes you under her wing and there are no catches. she just wants you to have the perfect stay. we had even made a mistake and booked 3 nights when we meant 4 and within 5 minutes, she had made arrangements for us to stay in another place that was fine because she was full up and then personally dropped us there in her car!
8 rooms. beautiful pool - big ebough to just cool off in but looks SO inviting. gorgeous dark wood teak rooms. 4 poster beds. and trees and pebbles and the best of thai interior and exterior design everywhere. beautiful.

only thing to note is the city centre is about 10 minutes walk away but a small price to pay for being at this place. and frankly, a tuk tuk ride costs pennies and takes 4 minutes.

the beauty and tranquility of this place, combined with value for money as well as the incredible hospitality makes this place a firm favourite.

My wife and I have stayed at this at this hotel at least 10 times in the last 4 years, for a total of 40 nights or more. Every time we return to Chiang Mai we look forward to our time spent at the Tri Yaan Na Ros.This charming hotel has many things to recommend it, but the owner, Mom Sing Sing, and her staff create a welcoming environment that cannot be matched by large hotels. At only 8 rooms, this hotel provides better service than much larger operations. There is overnight staff to greet you at reception if you arrive late, and as you return from evenings out. The beautiful swimming pool is just outside the door of all of the downstairs rooms. I always look forward to returning there after a long hot day out in the city or countryside. The tropical gardens surrounding the rooms create the feel of being far away from the city. The comfortable rooms feature well stocked refrigerators, coffee and tea service, comfy canopy beds, excellent air conditioning, and plenty of hot water.
A succesful blend of traditional Northern style architecture with contemporary details is due to inspired design by the owners' son, a local architect. The hotel is located in the Wua Lai area of Chiang Mai, just a short walk outside of the old city moat. This part of the city was traditionally a silver smithing center, and many home craft workshops still exist in the area. On Saturday evenings, the street in front of the hotel is closed for a walking market, where many of these local products are offered for sale. It is a great evening, spent walking the road with many craft stalls, sampling the street food, shopping for bargains and people watching, then returning to the lovely courtyard at the front of the hotel, where the staff operates a small restaurant during the evening. Bar drinks and small plates are available.
On our latest trip, we took our 2 month old daughter to meet her Thai grandparents and aunts. The hotel owner arranged for a babysitter, and was kind enough to provide another guest room for our daughter to spend the evening, while we went out for dinner.

Breakfast is provided in the morning, in the main house. It is a simple selection of Thai or Western foods, but is not to be missed. Often special dishes are prepared, such as sticky rice with mango, as an extra treat. And, the coffee is excellent!
My wife and I travel extensively, and have stayed at many beautiful hotels throughout Thailand, but Tri Yaan Na Ros remains our favorite home away from home

Love these places in Chiang Mai. Great position, just outside Old City, and off an evening a 10 minute walk to street food stalls. Rooms small but the huge 4 poster beds take up a lot of room. The owner is especially charming, our safe in room wasn't working and she was so conerned about it, offering us another room till such time it was fixed. Great little pool, good breakfast, and a lovely homely feel to place. An interesting Wat only 5 minutes away and the silver smiths in the road are very interesting. Also a street market in front on Saturday nights. Rooms are adorned witth silks and old wares, as is the whole B & B. Delightful.

very small hotel, quiet and good service. the owner was very nice, served us breakfast every morning sometimes with special fruits and goodies, even remembered our names and gave us a parting gift for our parents. reception was also very nice and helpful.
there's a street market outside the hotel which was convenient, great to see and not noisy at all.
we took some of the hotel bikes to explore the city, the old city is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
the beds are hard (which i tend to prefer to soft mushy beds) with springs inside, we put down some towels for more padding and it was perfect. rooms are dimly lit (difficult to read at night) but in a tasteful way, nice huge beds with mosquito nets and enormous bath/shower.
overall a very nice experience!

We selected this hotel based on the Lonely Planet "our pick" recommendation and the rating and comments on TripAdvisor.
Pros - Very sweet and super friendly staff, especially the owner. She even cooked us special (not on the menu) breakfast each morning including yummy mango sticky rice and gave us cookies for the day when she new we were going on the trip. The location is not so bad. We rented scooters and parked them at the hotel which was convenient. It's also super close to the airport and very quiet.
Cons - Nothing honeymoon or romantic about the hotel or Chiang Mai. The bathroom in our room was from the 50s. I was afraid to shower, the tub was gross, the faucet was broken and had only one temperature, there wasn't enough light. The mattress was super hard. We tried to spend as little time in the room as possible. The town is gray, dirty, lots of traffic, little sidewalks, non impressive temples, dusty and a bit boring.
If you do end up here, leave town and go into the mountains. We did the 100 kilometer loop on our scooters which was fun and very beautiful. We also visited the Elephant Nature Park about 1.5 hours away from the city which was an incredible experience. They save and rehabilitate tortured and abused elephants and give them their freedom, health and happiness back after the animals have been working for tourists or logging industries.

We're very sorry your honeymoon was not everything you hoped for.
We immediately repaired the broken faucet. Our hotel is definitely quaint and comes with the trappings of the colonial period.
We hope you return to Thailand and give our wonderful city another chance.
