We opted for the half-day cooking class because we had limited time in Chiang Mai to do everything we wanted. It was perfect as we still had sooooo much food to try, cook, and eat! I can’t remember our instructor’s name, but she was so sweet and helpful and her English was very good. Visiting the market was very interesting and learning how to make all of the traditional Thai dishes was fun and rewarding! The power went out while we were eating our dishes and the staff were very apologetic even though it didn’t bother us since everyone had already finished cooking. Definitely recommend if you’re wanting to do a traditional Thai cooking class, I’m sure the full day would be lots of fun too!
Me and my partner went to get a first time Thai cooking experience, we opted for the full day, and it was great! Picked up, taken to a local market where they talked through the common Thai vegetables and spices, then back to start cooking! Super friendly and helpful, very good English as well to explain everything! Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who likes cooking and thai food.
Chang cooking school was the best choice for a cooking class in Chiang Mai! I was picked up from my hostel and dropped off, perfect for my busy travels! Plus the location is very central so it was easy to still explore before and after the tour since transportation did not take long at all. Hueng, our lovely instructor, guided us (a friend and I) through the entire process. We started the evening with a private tour of a local market where our fresh ingredients had been bought. While on the tour, our ingredients were prepared back at the cooking school for the individual menus we selected. Then at the school over the course of about 2 hours, we prepared and cooked 4 courses. The instructions were easy to follow and cooking went fast. My friend and I were taught individually, not in a big group, so every step was personalized and the food turned out so delicious! Come on an empty stomach because there is so much delicious food to be made and eaten! To end the day, we were served blue sticky rice and mango that we did not cook but thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend this cooking school to any traveler in Thailand.
Having done a couple of courses myself, this is easily the best one I have been on.
I attended a full day course with my girlfriend and the staff could not have been any more helpful and welcoming. We spent a little while in the market learning about the ingredients then headed to restaurant to cook our 7(!) dishes.
I won't go into all the dishes in detail but they were well explained and supervised throughout. The chicken and cashew dish I ate was the best recipe I've tasted. In addition to our cooked meals we were taught some cool food carving and we were given a dessert. Complimentary tea and coffee is available and other drinks are available for purchase.
The restaurant is clean and very well presented, I can't recommend the course enough. It's great value for what you pay and you get picked up and dropped off from your hotel.
Beware, skip breakfast. You eat all of your dishes but they kindly pack anything to take away if you can't finish it.
Thanks to all the staff at Chang's!

Huan was very pleasant and deferential - a wonderful chef & person. Be sure to go there on an empty stomach; we made the mistake of eating breakfast then we couldn't eat the dishes we made ourselves. The prep area was clean and so cool looking. The kitchen was amazing since we were using two woks at a time. It was a great learning experience to go to the market before cooking so we could learn about the fresh ingredients we were going to use. I never knew there were so many kinds of eggplant & none of them looked like the eggplant I'm used to. There were little ones the size of gooseberries that were used in soups. The sticky rice/mango dessert was scrumptious!
I had a great time this past weekend at my half day Thai cooking class. Our instructor Huan (hopefully I am spelling that correctly) did a great job touring us through the market (very interesting) and then helping us with our dishes. I signed up for the tour myself but was joined by two other solo participants and I really enjoyed cooking with them and sharing the experience with them. I chose salad rolls, yellow chicken soup, pad Thai and khaki soi. The food turned out beautifully. I really enjoyed the time and would definitely recommend it to others!
