Owner description: Bai Tu Long Bay is the name of an area located in the east of Halong Bay Vietnam. Although it shares many similar geological characters with Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay is considered as off the beaten tourist track with many deserted and pristine beaches, no less impressive karst mountains. The Bay has a rich biodiversity with two ecosystems: a tropical, moist, evergreen rainforest ecosystem; and a marine and coastal ecosystem. The area has scarcely seen any tourist development. A large number of guests, through online research, wish to visit the Bai Tu Long Bay because it is much less crowded than Halong Bay. The only disadvantage is that it does not have many grottos. The nearest place for a visit (Vung Vieng Fishing village) is at around 20 km from tourist port.

It was a best cruise we booked through HALONG SAPA EXPERTS cruise agent and visited less toursity areas like cave, floating fishing village and island , beach and we loved to do kayaking around cave and karst, food at meals were great and also with vegerarian option for some of my friends. The trip was included from Hanoi and it was pretty great and safe.

Halong Bay and the surrounding islands themselves are stunning and beautiful. The reason for the low scoring is the incredible water pollution that we witnessed during our one night stay on a houseboat. For a protected UNESCO site to be treated this way is shameful.

The water was full of plastic and garbage. We were encouraged to swim in the water but opted against this as we saw cigarette butts, plastic bottles, plastic containers, garbage bags and styrofoam debris floating past our boat. Taking the kayak was a great experience, but minimized by the floating needle and syringe that meandered past our initial yards and the dead coral that is likely a symptom of the widespread pollution.

The fishing village we were taken to was upsetting as some of the fish are farmed in garbage-littered/oily water. The attached photos do not represent the scale of water pollution we saw (i.e it is worse).

In summary: Halong Bay IS beautiful but the experience is destroyed by the water pollution. Please think hard before spending your hard earned money taking an expensive tour here as you will likely be disappointed. This is particularly true if you go in the busy summer season as, according to our guide, the visitors have no regard for the environment and casually dump garbage off the side of their boats. The government of Vietnam needs to step up to protecting this and other beautiful assets (the urban community there is riddled by air pollution and garbage pollution of roads and waterways) - perhaps the only way to force this action is to take your vacation dollars elsewhere.

A must see! We booked a 9-hour trip group tour with pickup from Bai Chay. We chose Bai Tu Long Bay as it’s less crowded and less touristy than Halong Bay. The scenery was spectacular and so peaceful. This trip included rowing boat to the floating fishing village, Thien Canh Son Cave, Ban Chan beach and a seafood lunch on the boat. We did not do the overnight cruise as we were told both day trip and overnight trip had similar itineraries.

Picked up at our boat which had a bar and supplied lunch (we were in a group). This is such an amazing experience and yet again isn't nature wonderful. Took many photos as when you think that's enough something else appears. This was the highlight of our tour and fully recommend. Would have liked to have spent the night on the boat and if you have this chance take it.

Our first trip to Bai Tu Long bay and it did not disappoint. Less touristy and I enjoyed the calm and serene view in a small boat towed by fisherman.

Weather is fantastic, no stinging sun ray nor over hanging storm clouds. Cooling air and shimmering water just enticing you to take a swim.

We were also brought to one of the caves in the area which gave us a more scenic view of the Bay Area.

As this is a day trip, we did not try the over night boat stay.
