Wasnt sure about this trip though I might be bored but it was great. V Spirit cruise was fab- the food was amazing and so much of it. Included a good mix of things not just seafood. Also included was trip to the caves, the beach, kayaking and a cookery demo. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great value drinks were extra but they were reasonable prices. Our guide May was brilliant and very funny. 4 hour bus journey to get there from Hanoi was long but ok too. Staff were all great and safety seemed good. Thanks for a lovely birthday cake too

“Amazing!”
Reviewed January 22, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

Not only did we get to see amazing views of Holong Bay we also had amazing food and an amazing staff that went above and beyond. This was the highlight of our 9 day trip to Vietnam. We had our 22 month old son with us and they were more than accommodating with him. I would recommend this company to anyone who goes to Halong Bay. This is where we'll go again if we go back.

“Halong Bay unmissable and V Spirit a great option to see it.”

Booked on the 2 day 1 night trip. It was great but I do wish I had booked for longer, it just is nt long enough!
The journey itself to Halong Bay is long. Although you are told 3 1/2 hours this does nt include picking everyone up at the hotels and your stops or traffic so it is closer to 5 1/2 hours :-(
However once you get their it is beautiful. You gently cruise though the magnificent cliffs, admiring the scenery, lots of activities are included such as the cave excursion- amazing, beach stop off, hike to top of Islands, Kayaking but to be honest I would of still be perfectly happy just watching the scenery go past!
The boat I stayed on was lovely. It did nt look amazing from outside, but inside it was top notch. I got one of the best cabins which was at the back, and as well as a huge room with 2 walls of windows I had a private balcony too, really clean, nicely decorated and great bathroom too.
The food was really good, being vegetarian they catered amazingly for me. Although one big frustration I had is we were told where we must sit for all meals which was nt good- I was put on a table of Spanish speakers who could nt speak English and I cant speak Spanish. Another slight frustration with meals is as they serve the whole dining room dish per dish meal times can be quite long, first you have to wait till everyone from every table is there, and also you may get full on the earlier stuff then realize more and more is still coming!! but the meals are really good and they put a lot of effort into the quality and presentation of it.
Unfortunately one thing you will notice in Halong Bay is the litter- Although other reviewers have blamed the locals it was mostly tourists I saw sadly doing this, shameful when there are bins everywhere (Penguin bins!!) I did also see plenty of small litter boats that were going out collecting it, but we can all do our bit to help!! :-)
We had Kong as a tour guide and he did a really good job in looking after us.

A great trip and highlight of Vietnam.

“Fun trip, value for money.”
Reviewed December 7, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

Just returned from a 2day/1 night trip with this company. Peter was our guide- fun guy, great English. Boat value for money. Not luxury by any means but good mid range. Cockroach in cabin an unwanted guest though! Good food -amazing, so fresh & so much of it. Kayaking through caves fun but very busy with all the other boats doing the same.... Would be amazing to visit if you on your own.... Halong bay beautiful destination but very "touristy"- counted at least 45 other "junks" around us at any one time.... Sad to hear government moving fishing villages onshore in order to try & clean up bay... these people now have to relocate & adapt their way of life. Long, insanely bumpy road , 3 plus hour bus trip from Hanoi - air conditioned though.
Overall worth the visit. Thanks peter & Thu & crew for tour.

“An unfulfilled dream'”
Reviewed August 18, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Halong Bay is a gem itself but tremendously polluted by the locals who live on the floating villages as well as whatever is discarded from the boats. It is dirty and we were kayaking among food leftovers, plastic bags and foamy pollutants. Worst of all, nobody seems to care and if we- tourists- support this situation, chances are that Halong Bay will end up a huge garbagge bin.
As for the road to Halong Bay, that is a real adventure as it is bumpy -poor state of buses and careless drivers make things even worse.

Liked best: the service and the quality of food, friendly staff very accomodating to our needs
Liked least: the overall condition of the boat, our door was jammed-i wonder what might happen in case of emergency- it was not a cruise per se as the main boat was ankored at a specific bay along with a number of similar boats and you had the chance to see more

“Best bang for your buck”
Reviewed August 16, 2013 for a stay in September 2012

I have been meaning to write this review for awhile because we had such a great time which was mostly thanks to the staff in particular, Huang and Chen.

We were given two options of cruises when we arrived in Hanoi. We chose V'Spirit because we were getting better value for our money (and truth be told, the boats were a bit newer).

As the boat was new at the time, the boat and the rooms were clean and tidy. I believe one of the rooms at the back of the boat was a bit noisy due to the generator but we weren't in that room so it didn't bother us.

The food was delicious and the wine selection wasn't bad. We became quick friends with the bartender, Chen (whom we quickly nicknamed Master Chen as he was the tai-chi master, the chef and the bartender!) and the bf taught him how to make proper pina coladas which Chen was open to, even sourcing fresh coconuts for the cocktails. We quickly learnt to grab a two seater table because as the dishes are shared dishes and made for four, at the two seater table, you got double the food! And as the meals were so delicious we were always keen for seconds.

The outings and activities were what you would expect: swimming at Soi Sim (and a run along the beach with the friendly local dog), a visit to the Amazing Cave, a visit to a fishing village, a kayaking outing....

The atmosphere on the boat was fun. We were fortunate enough to have been with some fun singaporean guys on the first night and fun aussies on the second night.

We had a great time with V'Spirit cruises and narry a bad word to say.

“A great trip”
Reviewed July 20, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We enjoyed our trip to Halong Bay with V Spirit Cruises. We had a lovely and spacious room that was beyond what we expected. Our guide, Mike, was lovely to talk to, very knowledgable, and even funny! All meals on board were delicious but it would have been nice to be told the names/ingredients as the plates were laid on the table as we suspect we tried a number of things on our 'to-eat list', but we can't be sure! We enjoyed Tai Chi in the morning with 'Tim', also he was a little quiet, he was very polite and very accommodating. A highlight was getting to see monkeys whilst kayaking through the caves! The only suggestions we could make would be to consider wifi on the boats (although it was kind of nice to not have access to technology for 24 hours+), to consider a more comfortable bus given the extremely bumpy portion of the road for an hour into and out of Halong Bay (hopefully soon to be upgraded) and for the driver to stay off his phone whilst driving! Otherwise, the one night cruise was 'just right' and we highly recommend it.
