“Good hotel in old quarter.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights in March. Excellant hotel in the Old Quarter. Really in the thick of all the locals here. They cook and virtually live on the streets here, but if you don't stay in this area, you don't get the true feeling of Hanoi. Nobody bothers you, they just go about their own business.
Reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were very big and clean. Excellant bathrooms. Would recommend this hotel. Just note that by about 10.30 pm. Hanoi has virtually closed, you need to eat and drink early.

Located in the middle of the old quarter, it is a great find. Clean rooms with all the amenities you require including free water and Wifi (frequent dropout). The beds are massive (2 queens connected) so you may require a flare gun to find your partner at night. Great breakfast, friendly and extremely helpful staff and full time doorman make for a great stay.

The downside is a lift well, stairs and everyone's room doors all existing in a central pillar which can get noisy if people are leaving and you were aiming for a sleep in.

Overall, it was a great place to stay and worth the price.

My two friends and I stayed here from March 2 to 6 and we were extremely happy. The hotel picked us up promptly in a van (as requested), and our reservation was handled professionally and correctly. There are many horror stories about Hanoi hotels in TripAdvisor so we were really very pleased about not encountering any of these at our stay in Tirant Hotel.

The room and bathroom are quite spacious for 3 people (we got a king sized bed and and an extra bed), and they gave us a room at the back of the hotel which is more quiet vs the front facing the street. However, please note that there is a construction right next to the hotel (the owner bought the next lot for expansion), so there is a lot of hammering and pounding, but if you are out during the day, then this should not be an issue.

Our room had a window but it's useless because the view is a wall! But this is common anyway in most Hanoi hotels which are small and narrow.

The breakfast selection was suprisingly good and a mix of Western and local delicacies. So we were very happy with this.

The room was cleaned well, and when we needed extra towels or an extra cleaning, it was provided with no issues.

The staff are so friendly and service oriented, and helped us with booking some tours (city tour and tour to Halong Bay) as well as spa bookings. We were very happy with our stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, far from the street front.

We were starting a 22 day tour of Vietnam and Cambodia, first stop Hanoi, first hotel the TIrant -- what a little find. A bijou hotel, nice rooms a welcoming bowl of fruit and free water. Its situated in the heart of the old French quarter and a great atmospheric start to any visit to the country. Breakfast, included, was really good and could have stopped us for the rest of the day. The hotel was one of all those picked by our operator, Vietnam Trip Advisor, and their choises were excellent -- particularly that the cost was more than competitive with other companies we looked at. If we ever return to Hanoi the Tirant will be our first choice.

I arrived dusty and tired from Luang Preban, Laos (don't EVER take the bus!!!!!) and walked in off the street. The front desk staff and porters at the Tirant are genuine, friendly and confident young people who seem proud of their work - which means the management must be good. My room was small but the bed was perfect and the bathroom clean, well-appointed with a walk-in shower.

Breakfast buffet is one of the bet I've had in Vietnam, Fresh food, well-prepared, excellent coffee and again, polite staff. This small hotel is trying hard and reaches a good standard. It's a modern, European style hotel, though: no period features.

Room Tip: Most rooms have few or no views, owing to the location. I stayed in a single with a double bed which...

While I agree with most of the other reviews, words of caution have to be expressed about the building. As most other hotels in downdown Hanoi, this one has very few rooms with full windows. Not having daylight in the room is acceptable for overnight stay but can be a drawback if you need to stay longer periods in the hotel. The staff is very helpful to make up for this deficiency but we found it depressing after a couple of days. In addition, the building next to the hotel has been torn down and we just hope the construction is stable enough even without temporary support with the next building.

Room Tip: rooms with full windows can be more costly than other comparable hotels.

Dear LaohuBasel,

Thank you for your review! As you have mentioned, most of the hotels in the old quarter area just have a limited number of rooms with window. And as you could have noticed when making reservation, we clearly stated in our room description that Deluxe room is the room with window but no view (the Deluxe room is opposite to the building behind us). If you are interested in room with large window with view, you can book for either Executive room or our Grand Suite.

Since you came to stay with us and were not happy with the room arrangement, we did all in our power to make you more comfortable including changing the room and striving to meet your other requests. I'm sorry that despite our effort, your stay was not as you expected.

Furthermore, the project nearby has no constructional impact on our hotel. It will not affect our building structure or anything like that, especially when Tirant hotel was just newly built with modern technology that could help the building to withstand even mid-range earthquake.

Once again, I want to thank you for your comment and hope that you have had a wonderful stay in Hanoi.

Perfect location in the old quarter. Hotel is excellently appointed for the price and the staff are wonderfully helpful. Breakfast each morning was also excellent. After staying here, I would not consider staying anywhere else in Hanoi.
