We arrived at 4pm and almost had the site to ourselves, it was incredible at this time with low light the buildings and water were just perfect. 100,000 entrance. Their is renovation work being carried out but it doesn’t affect too much thankfully. Make sure you follow the lake as their are more things to see in every corner of this site.

One of the Kaiser tombs you should visit when in Hue and with approx. 4 km to city centre the closest. We went there, to the citadel and the other main tombs by scooter what is a pleasant, cheap and entertaining way to get arround. The Tomb of Tu Duc is a calm parket with a little lake, island, river, tea house and different buildings including some monumental constructions for his own grave (although his sarcophagus is empty and the corpse is resting somewhere on the site) and smaller ones for his first wife and son in the north. The place is very peaceful and invites you to sit, relax and have a picnick.

Tu Duc was an emperor in the 19th century.

This emperor certainly knew how to live. This is a very pleasant estate with nice walkways and a delightful lake. Up the staircase from the lake is the tomb for the emperor - except nobody apparently knows for sure where he is really buried.

Next to the lake, there is a nice timber structure where the emperor must have spent many hours relaxing and looking out over the island in the middle of the lake. We sat there too after we'd taken off our shoes.

Wonderful small village with interesting history of previous emperors. Ladies performed in one temple which was lovely.

The Tombs of Tu Duc are located 15min by motorbike from downtown Hue. They are quite big and you can see the Chinese influence. You can walk around, enjoy the temples and mausuleums (some were closed when we were there), walk around the artificial river inside... it's worth visiting.
