“Ballrooms are Infested by Mosquitoes”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

I live in Dhaka and major events are often held at this hotel. After my last experience I will never go back.

On the positive side, the rooms are quite modern and nice. It is a bit of a hassle having to use key cards to access floors (especially if you are part of a group), but I guess this adds security.

On a recent evening, I attended a large banquet/party. All through the meal our feet were devoured by mosquitoes under the table. It was so uncomfortable that half of our group just left the hotel after the meal was served. We could not get to the exits fast enough. Although we complained to the staff, they refused to do anything for hours.

The hotel is a short distance from the Airport and far away from the crowded city. In case your work is in Gulsan and Uttarn areas, the hotel is well located. A railway track runs beside the hotel but doesn't disturb much. It has well equipped health centre as also Cigar room [on 8th Flr.]. In addition to swimming pool, there is reasonably long walking track. The lobby is magnificent, Nice dinning place, food quality is good. Staff is very helpful but the room are small. If, you are not a smoker, avoid smoking floors.

Room Tip: Room facing swimming pool are quiter

Very poor service. Had to wait hours to get a room allocated. Very unfriendly reception. How on earth did they manage to enter the Radisson group. Avoid, avoid..

I stayed in the Radisson for a change from the Westin to see what the Radisson is like.
There are some positives: the hotel is spacious, the business lounge on the 8th floor is spacious and quite good for business meetings conveniently located next to the Sublime restaurant and the hotel is out of the town centre near the airport so it is not as noisy as the town centre and convenient to get to the airport.
The Westin is still number 1 as they offer flexible checkout times. Many flights arrive and depart in the evenings in Dhaka. At the Westin they offer part day rates so you can come back from your meetings, shower, change and checkout at 9 or 10pm (for an additional fee) and then go to the airport refreshed and ready for your flight.
The Radisson used to offer flexible checkout times (also for an additional fee) but they have stopped offering this flexibility. The latest checkout time they would give me was 4pm otherwise they would charge a full night. So when I came back from my meeting at 6pm in my suit I did not have the option of a shower, changing and finishing some work before going to the airport.
This lack of flexibility, which the Westin offers, puts the Radisson as the second best hotel in Dhaka and the Westin as the best hotel in Dhaka.
The Westin is a little more expensive than the Radisson but that is because the location is more central and the quality is a little (marginally) better than the Radisson.
I will be returning to the Westin for my future trips and go to the Radisson only when the Westin is full.

I am in Dhaka staying at a small, affordable boutique-style hotel, as I am here for graduate research. The Radisson has been an oasis when my team member and I want to "escape" the dust and hustle and bustle of Dhaka without going far.

For approximately $35 USD, non-guests can go to the Health Club (downstairs) and use the gym and the large, gorgeous outdoor pool. Although the Radisson is off Airport Road and you can hear and smell the city from the pool area, it is good place to unwind and even has a lot of foliage (rare in this city, it seems).

If you don't want to pay to swim in the pool, you can sit poolside and eat and drink from ChitChat, the cafe.

If you're there around dusk, bring a lot of repellent; the mosquitoes are vicious!

In the evenings, after 18:00 I believe, the international buffet is available upstairs for approximately $40 USD. The ambiance is good, the service is good, and the food is good (nothing spectacular, but it is good, and is surely a safe place to eat salad, non-peelable fruit, and other things you may be avoiding in Dhaka).

FYI: Upon entering the perimeter gate, they check the undercarriage and trunks of vehicles and you go through metal detectors to get into the lobby. A bit disconcerting, but thus far, we have found no reason to believe that there is any threat; perhaps it is there to further accentuate the hotel's elitism.

Lovely hotel with great spa service which makes all the traffic and dirt and amazing crowds of dhaka seem like a long way away! The pool area is well done and very relaxing, and staff are mostly friendly. Recommend the main dining room over the poolside cafe for food. Location is pretty handy to airport. Hotel is pricey but in Dhaka you get what you pay for so be warned.

Perhaps the best place to stay in Dhaka. Staff need to learn a bit more of customer service. They still have a habit of finding faults with the customer. Mosquitoes in the main dining area need to be addressed. 95% staff super friendly and efficient. Great place to stay.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool.
