The Brunei Hotel
Reviewed 12 January 2016

The Brunei Hotel is a decent boutique hotel with primarily business clientele in mind- it's located within very short walking distances from the main office buildings in BSB housing various oil and gas companies, banks etc. Plenty of good restaurants are scattered nearby, so does the Yayasan mall (a drab mall by western standards, but it has the basics).

My room was quite small, but very modern and well-appointed. It had all the things I needed- hot shower, good selection of TV channels, comfy bed with plush pillows, refrigerator...The wifi was stable and reasonably fast, and the laundry service was efficient.

Breakfast is complimentary, and is nothing to shout about; some bland local dishes with an egg counter where you can request for some omelettes and scrambled eggs.

I stayed at The Brunei for a week plus for business purpose, and the hotel did it job pretty well. It's no Hilton, but it's decent. I have no complaints.

This hotel is fabulously located and very well appointed. We arrived after a very long day travelling and were delighted with the hotel and its amenities. Staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel is perfectly located. The late night snack of roasted chicken sandwich... Delish! Definitely a great place to stay!

My partner and I spent one night at the Brunei Hotel. The place is modern and clean and a good breakfast is included. The staff where very helpful and changed money for us, organised transport and a great river tour too. Highly recommend this place as a good value place to stay!

A new hotel with friendly, helpful staff with good sized, well equipped clean rooms. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel is well located for most city centre based sights. There are plenty of restaurants nearby with a street market across the road.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the opposite side to the main road.

Smart hotel with nice welcoming area, rooms were ok but we felt a bit expensive for what they were. Good location. Breakfast wasn't very good on the vegan side and again was expensive for what it was.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights on our 1st visit to this country. Completely renovated, our 2nd floor queen overlooking the Riverfront Market was perfect and quiet with outfitted bathroom, coffee pot, comfortable bed and 12 channel flat screen with BBC/HBO/Discovery in English. WIFI was good but a bit slow at times. Breakfast buffet included cereal, fruit, eggs, breads, juice, muffins, and Asian selections. We are now taking the complimentary shuttle back to BWN.
We arrived by 1B$ bus that brought us quickly right to our hotel. The Bus Station is located 1 block S and we have used it each day; #36 to Tasek Lama Park, #39 to the Brunei Museum(under renovation) and walked 1 mile to access the riverfront Maritime & Technology Museums, and # 20 to the Mall and nearby Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque.
We liked our location for walking to most of the sights; Regalia Museum, new Mall 4 blocks west near the pier, and for morning/evening pictures of Omar Mosque next door.
Highpoint was our tour with Mark Putera Delima and his wife Wann for a 3 hour covered boat trip up the Brunei River to see the endemic and endangered Proboscis Monkeys. Wann narrated the city sights in English as Mark stopped frequently spotting nature; Salt Water Crocodile, Mangrove Gold-ringed Cat Snake, 2 Rufous Night Herons, Osprey, Monitor Lizard, and we observed/photographed 2 families of 10+ each of the Proboscis Monkeys for an hour. What a wonderful experience not to mention seeing fishermen setting their nets at sunset and passing the Sultan's Palace and the Regents new Palace. Unforgettable.

Room Tip: Nice to see the River Market activity.

I stayed at the Brunei Hotel on business and with a little trepidation as I usually stay at one of the two more expensive options.
The hotel has most of the facilities that you would expect and really good WiFi. The rooms are simply furnished and have an open hanging space, sufficient drawers, a safe and a strong shower. The temperature signs in the bathroom are a little confusing but nothing that could not be fixed with a little trial and error.
The breakfast was OK, but perhaps an little expensive as an option. The food in the restaurant was good value and good quality - especially the Nasi Lemak with beef rendang!
I paid for the airport transfer. Although this was a little expensive at $B30, the driver was prompt and friendly and I was at the hotel within 10 minutes of clearing customs.
The picture of the rooms on the hotel website are a good reflection of the reality that I found.

Room Tip: Riverside rooms have a view over the market
