“Nice pool pity about the rats & roaches”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2012

This is one of the more upmarket hotels in the capital, however 2 of us observed rats around the swimming pool at night & had cockroaches in our rooms. A number of us on our tour also got food poisioning from eating at the hotel. (we did not eat anywhere else) which is a pity I expected better. Clearly there is a pest and hygene issue here and unyil it is sorted I would not recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the Lone Star, had a wonderful experience there as I always do. The rooms are spacious and very clean, great value for your money. The staff are friendly and helpful with booking day trips. Everything on the menu is good home cooking style food, try the ribs from the BBQ! The bar has many expats and world travellers to chat with.

The hotel is suitable for a short stay if sightseeing in Phnom Penh. The rooms are quite large with good facilities, and the breakfasts provided a wide choice. This is more or less a transit hotel with short stay guests only. The road outside the hotel is very busy, in fact too busy to cross to the restaurants situated opposite and we had to give up but found a restaurant near the rear entrance of the hotel, on the corner, which served Asian food and had over 360 items on the menu with photos of each. I thought I was being given a telephone directory when it was given to me, but it was certainly well worth the visit and a change from hotel food. The hotel is situated approx.a kilometer from the riverside area where most of the local and up-market eateries are situated. There is a charity restaurant run with the use of deprived children who are learning cooking and hospitality skills which is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Room Tip: The rooms facing west overlooking the pool area are currently being refurbished and painted to the o...

Knowing that Cambodia is still a relatively "poor" country, I was not sure what to expect but this hotel was a pleasant surprise. Well located and the rooms were clean and quite large. Staff was excellent and could not be faulted. You could feel that this hotel was really making an effort for its guests. Food was good and breakfast had enough variety. We had a pool view but scaffolding had been erected so view was slightly obscured - no problem, good to see renovations being done. Gym is good and there is an excellent Spa and Massage centre. From $US11 plus tip for a 1 hour massage was good value - these young ladies have strong hands and know their work! Great value to get the kinks out after a long flight or a night on the hotel's hard beds.

Room Tip: Pool view is good as the other rooms really do not have anything worthwhile to look at.

Great location for short visit as a tourist. The rooms were spacious and although the bed was very hard we had a reasonably comfortable night, the air conditioning was very good on a very hot and humid day. Staff were very friendly and we had no problems with valuables, the safe worked fine.
The bathroom was clean and adequate although not sure about the weird spa and shower set up, the shower was fine but most of the other functions did not operate. Breakfast was very good particularly if you are partial to Asian style soups etc.
It was only a relatively short walk to the river front and night market where there were also some excellent restaurants. We highly recommend the restaurant right on the river shaped like a boat, great atmosphere for open air dining at night on the water ron, sorry can't remember the name.
Overall a very pleasant stay and we would recommend this hotel for a short tourist stay.

Room Tip: Pool or front view of gardens are good
