This to me, is the most central parts of the city. Known as The Old City, getting here by public transport is easy.

The waterfront usually has cruise ships, providing it's passengers with easy, self-arranged access to sights and shopping.

I believe this should be the most wanted place in Istanbul since I tried to get the touch of Constantinople and Ottoman.

The Sultanahmet District encompasses a great number of the standard tourist sites plus places to discover that are too many to list. In the large central square, there are benches, trees, grass, plaques and kiosks explaining the history of the places and monuments, and public restrooms, which we didn’t try. The level smooth pavement was clean, and besides the ubiquitous selfie-taking tourists, we saw families on holiday, eating roasted corn, chestnuts, and Turkish sesame bread (simit), often spread with Nutella, bought from push carts. Trams at one corner take you to other districts. Our hotel was off the opposite corner of the square, on a steep, winding, narrow cobblestone street, near remnants of the Hippodrome wall, with views of the Bosphorus from the upper floors. Strolling back across the square one evening and seeing the Blue Mosque lit up, with a full moon rising behind it, was truly enchanting. Try to stay in this district more than a day or two if you can.

Has or close to most historic sites that you want to visit ..old pedestrian streets with endless shops and restaurants choices to choose from.
you need to haggle with every shop owner when buying and the price could easily become 1/2 originally offered figure .
