Negatives: very small rooms, no independent way to manage heating, paper thin walls so noisy, the train (I managed to 'learn' the timetable!) hurtles by but a stone's throw from the window, challenging to enter 'shower' (very high), charging for sachets of Nescafe.
Breakfast: awful beyond words. No fruit, extra charge for juice, eggs. Rubbish coffee.

Positives: one redeeming feature was the brutal torrent from the shower (accidental, I presume), location is useful.

Istanbul: hard-sell hassle which is annoying. The roads are challenging too.

Overall impression of Avicenna Hotel: ludicrous to label this as a 4 star. I would give it no more than a single star. Not a pleasant please at all. Best avoided.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 2 nights. I loved it!
The location is great, only 3mins walk from blue mosque and some of great attractions of Istanbul. It is not overly priced or rated like some of the hotels in the area. The staff was lovely and very helpful.
I definitely recommend this hotel to everyone! I sure will stay here again!
Loved it!

With this hotel, location is everything, being literally a couple of minutes' walk from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace, while the Grand Bazaar is within easy walking distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room comfortable and clean, with a fridge/minibar, safe deposit and TV which received BBC World. We had a balcony but didn't use it as there was no view and it had snowed just before we arrived, so we weren't going to sit outside! Although centrally located, the hotel is in a back-street, so that it was quiet at night - although we were aware of the railway at the rear, it didn't disturb us at all. Breakfast in the basement was O.K. but not great. Others have mentioned the rather eccentric practice of charging for orange juice and for tea-bags in the room, so I shan't labour the point except to say that at the end of our stay these "extras" didn't add up to a huge amount. We didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on it, though others who ate there said it was fine. In any case, there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. For the independent traveller, finding one's way from the airport can be hair-raising, so it might be helpful if I mention that we found a company called Backpackers on the internet, which provides a vehicle and driver to the door of the hotel for 20 euros each way. We pre-booked with them, were met at the airport, and on the day of our return they were not just prompt but early to pick us up at the hotel. Altogether we were very satisfied, both with the hotel and this transport arrangement.

This is a great hotel for a 4 star accommodation, the team is friendly and helpful, always ready to give information. Great location, close to most points of interest - within walking distance of blue mosque, hagia sophia, grand bazaaar, public transport and restaurants. The hotel provided free internet and the room had a great view to the city lights and sea. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: ask for sea view room with balcony.
