We stayed at this amazing place between Nov 11 to Nov 13 2011. The key POSITIVES of this place are:

1. The view of the Marmara Sea as well as Blue Mosque from the terrace as well as breakfast area at the top of the hotel is the best thing about this place. YOU MUST GO UP THE NARROW IRON SPIRAL STAIRCASE LEADING UP TO THE TERRACE FROM THE BREAKFAST AREA. DO NOT MISS THIS PLEASE.YOU CAN TAKE AMAZING PICTURES FROM THERE (IF YOU CAN BRAVE THE COLD LIKE WE DID!!).
2. The next best thing is the simple but good continental complimentary breakfast spread on offer in the morning. you have a very good view of the Marmara Sea from the breakfast area.
3.Our top floor BLUE ROOM was quite large (had a double bed as well as a separate single bed).
4. Naz is located just around 4 to 5 minutes by walking away from Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia. An amazing location.
5. We slept very well on all nights. However some light sleepers may have a problem in sleeping when the train passes. This is a very small issue however.
6. Mr Ozay, the manager of this place was very polite and helpful.

The only NEGATIVE IS:
1. we paid 90 euros per night for the BLUE ROOM which is the best room at Naz, we were told. however, the views of the marmara sea from this room were average or mediocre.Instead, we now realize we should have taken a cheaper room at naz in the lower floors because the best view is from the terrace area and not from the best room (THE BLUE ROOM). keeping this in mind, we found staying in the Blue Room a bit too expensive.

Room Tip: Try taking a cheaper room here instead of the blue room which though large and roomy does not have a...

This hotel is in an area in Sultanahmet between the Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus. From the roof terrace you can enjoy good views of both. The area consists of narrow, hilly, cobbled streets full of old Ottoman buildings many of which are being carefully restored mostly in the traditional style. Driving in these lanes is not for the faint hearted! The room was pleasant, decorated in what I imagine to be a fairly traditional style with modern comforts. Breakfast was good, and coffee and tea was available in the afternoon too. Staff were courteous and helpful. It is conveniently located for local attractions, The Blue Mosque, Topkapı, Hagia Sofia, and there is transport nearby to virtually everywhere else you might want to see on a first visit to Istanbul, although a lot of Istanbul can be enjoyed on foot. The hotel is situated between the Blue Mosque and Akbıyık Camii, a smaller local mosque. The amplified call to prayer from both, almost simultaneously, acts as an alarm clock and adds to the local colour. The only one small drawback is that a busy railway line runs next to the back of the hotel and can be a little noisey at times. Nevertheless I would recommend this hotel.

We spent two nights at Naz Wooden House Inn at the conclusion of a cruise. This quaint, intimate hotel is in a very good location. Manager Ozay Meydan is an extremely friendly gentleman, and very accommodating. He arranged a taxi service to collect us at the pier, and to bring us to the airport, which was extremely convenient and good value. The room rate was a bit high, but comparable to other small hotels in the area. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm glad we requested room 7, which is at the top floor and larger than the other rooms. There was plenty of space for two adults and our luggage. Our room was clean and comfortable. Others have said that you don't notice the trains, but I have to say that we did find them to be loud and intrusive in the morning. A lovely breakfast spread is put out every morning and you can sit in the breakfast area and enjoy the view through large windows. A tiny winding staircase leads to a rooftop terrace that has drop-dead views of the Blue Mosque in one direction and the sea in the other. Unfortunately it was gray and chilly when we were there and the terrace wasn't in use. On a fine day it would be a spectacular spot to enjoy a cup of tea. The area where the Naz Wooden House is located is very interesting. Some of the most important sights in Istanbul are within an easy five minute walk. The neighborhood itself shows much transition. You will see beautifully renovated old buildings cheek to jowl with uninhabited shells. Within a block or so there are countless cafés and hotels. Very lively at night, but the café pitchmen on the sidewalk tend to be pushy and aggressive. We only patronized restaurants that didn't assault us with hard-sell, and enjoyed some lovely meals. The area around Naz Wooden House felt safe, and we did not feel insecure walking back to the hotel after dark.

Room Tip: If room size is important, ask for recommendations when booking.

This was our second trip to Istanbul, first time at Naz and we are already planning our return next year.

Our room was spotlessly clean, good size and nicely furnished. Lovely breakfast on the terrace, food was good with plenty of choice. Stunning views from terrace to Blue Mosque and Marmara Sea, we liked that we could use the terrace any time, there was always coffee and cakes - the chocolate cake became a firm favourite!

Naz is perfectly situated in the heart of Sultanahmet, the staff were very helpful and friendly. would definately recommend this hotel.

Very close to the Blue Sultanahmet and easy walking to everywhere - in fact there is a great view from the rooftop terrace. Staff were polite and helpful with OK recommendation to one fish restaurant in the touristy strip opposite the fish market (there are better restaurants though everywhere and be advised that wine is relatively expensive everywhere (minimum £15/bottle) for reasons no-one could explain), the taxi pick up the hotel arranged from the airport very good - more pricey than a taxi but for 4 people with cases it was nice. Breakfast was excellent, coffee. tea and cakes available from 2pm everyday in the rooftop dining area wireless internet from the reception worked Ok, our triple rooms (one each for 2 parties of 2, rooms 4 and 7) were spacious and clean with comfortable beds, good views and 4 had a nice balcony. The double the other 2 in our party were initially allocated at check in (#3 I think? - despite us booking 6 months before) is really a small single with a street view so beware. Bathrooms were OK although we had no hot water one morning and no heating (it was cold that day) one day.
Overall it was good but if you want a modern, spacious, all services hotel this might not be the one for you as it is a narrow, steep, ancient house in a very narrow backstreet. However for the price and location very good except for the eccentricities of the hourly trains which run alongside the hotel up to about midnight and then from 6am (you actually don't notice them much) and then the very loud call for prayers (esp. 630am) from the minaret about 30m from our window. However that happens throughout Istanbul and I think doubles for the hotel wake up call. As for Istanbul - it rained while we there so it didn't look its best and I was amazed at how built it had become in the suburbs since I was last there 10 years ago - it is a HUGE city with occasionally awful traffic. However the sites are interesting and we barely scratched the surface in 4 days, the shopping is wonderful in the markets with good quality - although it seems with widely pirated branded goods, with initial prices quoted 2-4x the final settlement price after bargaining.

Room Tip: Higher and rear (sea view) seem best

We chose room number 1 which is built inside a Roman(?) wall. The room was of ample size. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom and shower stall are small as are most in Turkey. The electric trains run next to the hotel but this did not disturb our sleep. The breakfast was better than most, featuring hard-boiled eggs, two types of cheeses, several types of bread, olives, jams, juice, coffee and tea. The hotel is located near the major sites of Stamboul. The desk clerk was very helpful in helping us find sites and making arrangements for tours.

Room Tip: Room number 1 is of adequate size. Room number 6 is very small.

We booked a double room at the Naz Wooden House Inn in Sultanahmet.

The hotel is, as the name suggests, a historic wooden house. This means it is tall and narrow - rooms are small and we might have been in trouble for luggage space but fortunately Turkish Airlines lost our luggage so this wasn't a problem. The room was quiet, furnished with basic but authentically Turkish furnishings, and the walls were covered in a rough kind of render adding to the historic/authentic feel.

The breakfast buffet was excellent with a choice of hot food, cereals, fruit or cheese and meat. The dining terrace has views out over the sea of Marmera (but unfortunately it has been glazed in since my first visit a couple of years ago) and there is an upstairs roof terrace with stunning views back to the nearby Blue Mosque.

The owner was very helpful and friendly, going to no small trouble to chase Turkish Airlines in the hope of recovering our luggage. He is also able to organize tours if you wish. Alternatively, just step outside and you are already in the historic heart of the city in a maze of narrow cobbled streets. This is a real advantage over more "modern" hotels which are located some distance away from the sights - all the more so since Istanbul traffic jams are terrible.

The price for NAZ Wooden House is quite expensive by world standards but Istanbul is an expensive city and Naz compares wll with other hotels in the area.

We also booked the airport collection service which was on time and efficient.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the street side, away from the railway line.
