Hali Hotel
Ranked #536 of 1,173 Hotels in Istanbul
Reviewed 26 July 2016

We have been staying at the Hali Hotel for over 16 years (probaby more than 60 separate stays). It's location is one of the best in the city, overlooking the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, with the Bosphorus as a backdrop. It's a short walk to the tramway - which connects to the rest of this vast metropolis. It's close to dozens of cafes and restaurants and is a perfect base for exploring the historic center.

It offers secure, clean rooms with modest facilities. The rooms at the front have a fabulous view, but are smaller. The rooms at the back are more spacious but with no view. We have always had clear communication and agreed expectations before making a final booking.

The manager is an extremely helpful and polite guy who speaks excellent English. He personally handles the bookings sent to the email address on the hotel website. He has always tried to fulfil wishes as far as he is able.

The beds are on the hard rather than the soft side. The lift is small - but this adds to its post Ottoman charm! There are no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms, but there is a fridge - and Starbucks is only 50 metres away! The roof terrace is a great place to have your breakfast, or sunbathe. The breakfasts are simple but very tasty. The dining room often feels very cosmopolitan with groups of both Turkish and foreign visitors.

The staff are not intrusive and have always given every impression of being willing to help if they can.

This is not a luxury 5 star hotel to indulge yourself in. But if you treat it as a perfect base from which to explore the city, you will not be disappointed. And coming back after a long day, it feels like 'home'!

Few minutes far from the trum - train. Great location, nice rooms and simple breakfast on the terrace facing a nice view of the city. Very friendly and helpful staff. No complementary water or tea/coffee. Slippers is on request. No toothbrush/toothpaste. Overall it's a good place.

I stayed at this hotel between May 6-9 May. The hotel is located in a good place, near The Blue Mosque. The hotel facilities are not good enough. The hatel serves bed and breakfast. The breakfast is the best thing about the hotel, but the rooms are dusty. The blankets are very dusty, I had hard time while sleeping. Although the price seems to be reasonable, it is not worth servive you get.

Room Tip: Chose the rooms from the front overlooking the Blue Mosque

Location is amazing; more affordable than other hotels along the same street. Front desk staff were warm and friendly - spoke English fluently.
Booked airport shuttle to pick up from Hotel Hali (via a nearby travel agency). Reception would only offer us taxi pickup.
Beds were comfortable but the room was not made up sometimes even after the make up the room sign was on.
Elevator works fine although it's tiny (max 3 people). Breakfast was buffet-style but nothing special. Mostly bread and cheese. View of the cultural monuments from the breakfast terrace is amazing.

Room Tip: Best view from the top floor facing the Hagia Sophia

Recently stayed there for 4 nights. Was alright not the best but will do for a quick visit. No iron or kettle in room. Lack of staff who speak English does make it difficult. WiFi is available but not the best. Very convenient location. Near metro and tourist location.

We stayed for six nights from 20 Sep 2015
The staff are very nice. Shareef stands out the most polite, patient and helpful staff. Always smiling and ever willing to answer any queries. The room is very clean and well maintained. We were give the fifth level overlooking the Blue Mosque and the sunrise and sunset were stunning.
It's within the shopping belt but very quiet because of the sound proof windows. We had a lovely stay

The Sultanahmet area of Istanbul is very old and many of the buildings have been converted into hotels so they often have a street frontage as is the case of the Hali. No effort has been made to brighten the reception so it is quite a dismal introduction to this hotel. The ancient lift carries two people and a suitcase very cosily. I checked out of the hotel after seeing my room which was tiny, smelled damp, had dark furniture and two tiny single beds. The bathroom was no better and was cramped and dingy.
The front bedrooms have a spectacular view but have the constant street noise to contend with. The staff, as with all the people of Turkey, are friendly, helpful and eager to please. Friends who stayed here said the breakfast consisted of pastries, cheese and cold meat.
