This review dates back to my visit in May 2014 but I had said that I would post a review as I left so this is a sort of New Year's Resolution!
The hotel is very convenient for the main tourist sites of the city and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Breakfast is simple and the evening meals unexciting but there is plenty of choice nearby.
I could not use the terrace bar as it rained all the time I was there but the views of the Bosphorus are excellent.
The staff were most helpful with advice on transport in the city and there is a cheap shuttle bus to take you to the airport but beware the traffic can be horrendous.
A very comfortable base to use when exploring the historic city.
Others have complained of the smell from the fish stall outside but this was not a problem during my stay.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and it has always been a pleasant experience. However this year I was put in a room on the top floor. Between 5pm and midnight every night, a most unpleasant smell was emanating from the kitchen where the cooking had started for the evening meal. It was the smell of old fat and oil and some nights was so awful that sleeping became a problem. Also the scraping of chairs in the restaurant was most annoying.
On each visit to this hotel the hairdryer in the room has not worked. Unacceptable!
The breakfasts seem to have become very mediocre. Seven years ago they were stupendous.
I would probably stay at this hotel again, as the staff are lovely, but would be very certain not to get a room on the top floor again.

Room tip: For me the best room has always been 102. Quiet, no cooking smells and no scraping of chairs in the restaurant!

Everything about the Alaturka was perfect, from the friendly welcome to the delicious evening meal on the amazing roof terrace. The room was in keeping with the surroundings - as you would hope for in a pretty quiet side street of this historic city.

It is located just a few minutes from Ayasofiya and Sultanahmet as well as tram links to the rest of the city. Our stay here was 10/10. The only bad thing was we only had one night in Istanbul - We would stay here again if in Istanbul.

We just spent a week at Alaturka Hotel i Instanbul. We were four friends travelling together and chose a family room. The room was located on the bottom floor, behind reception. The room was big and comfortable with one bathroom and one toilet. This hotel gets a high rating because of the fantastic staff. After a few days we really felt at home! Staff was kind, helpful and spoke good english.

If I were to rate the facilities, I would say that the restaurant and breakfast was not that good, though it provided a spectacular view of the Marmara sea, Sultan Ahmet and Hagia Sophia.

Wifi was free, but somewhat shaky. The hotel provides airport transfer for a fee, wich we used. Easiest way to get from Atatürk.

What I really missed was a safe deposit box in the room. But since the room was located behind reception and because of the attentive staff, we had no reason to worry about our stuff.

Room tip: If you want a big room. Choose room no 11. It's on the ground floor. It can be separated in to two bedrooms.
