In the heart of Mahane Yehuda, the Jerusalem Shuk, is a small stand called Jachnun Bar. Don't be fooled by the lack of fanciness--this would be fine dining in different surroundings! Let them prepare a Mellawah sandwich for you. You will experience a circus of flavors.

Jachnun Bar is vegetarian/dairy/Kosher. Warning: Their simple sandwiches are a meal in themselves, at very reasonable prices.

There is another location within the city (either on Jaffa Street or Shlomzion Hamalka) but I believe the Shuk location offers the fullest experience. I recommend trying one of their homemade sodas made with different choices of fruit, or with a beer from one of the local pubs within Mahane Yehuda.

Amazing for anytime of day. I had it once at 3am, and then another time at 3pm. The service is wonderful and they have such talent. Really special place in the heart of the shuk.

Great Yeminite, Israeli food and middle eastern food.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants great unique food and an experience of Jerusalem.
You should definitely try the Malawach or Jachnun, although everything else on the menu is great.
On the other side there is a funky bar that opens around 8:30 pm, with music a great beer.
Come here during the day for the market experience, or at night for a funky night scene.
