Such fun. Views are absolutely amazing. Thought you could walk right round but you can’t. It has a gate then you come back. Took a coupla hours can get a bit slow if you get stuck behind a large group as it’s very narrow in parts, only one person wide. Felt very safe

The Ramparts Walk is the castle-like walkway atop Jerusalem’s Old City Walls. The snaggletooth projections protected defenders against the modern-age implements of war: arrows. This reminded me the ramparts at Lisbon’s Sao Jorge Castle, when visiting last June. Like that stone edifice, this provides phenomenal views of the city. The cost is minimal, and well worth the exploration. I accessed this site near Dung Gate and had some difficulty walking on the uneven stones. Still, the vistas are impressive.

Every few years we walk on the wall with the family (children between 20 and 8 y.o). Each time it it again interesting and recommended to do. Though it was very hot (about 32 def C) we all enjoyed the walk from Jaffa gate to Dung gate.

You can walk most of the way around the Old City on the Rampart walls, getting great views of the Mountains, cemeteries, churches, Jerusalem, etc outside the walls. Also, most areas inside the walls. The cost in minimal.

This walk is highly recommended if you are able to get up and down the steps at either end.

We entered near Jaffa Gate and took the Northern route descending somewhere near Damacus gate into the hustle and bustle of the city.

You buy tickets at a small kiosk to the right of the steps then ascend and go through a revolving gate. There are very clean toilets at the top of the stairs so I advise taking advantage of these as the gate is one way!

There seemed to be a stream of people coming up the steps but, once we were up on the walls we saw nobody except some workmen who were painting railings.

No jostling with crowds, no hawkers, lovely views out over the new city and interesting views into the old part. What more could you want? There are places where you can perch to rest, enjoy the calm and maybe have a picnic.
