A Little House in the Colony
Ranked #14 of 60 Jerusalem B&B and Inns
Reviewed 20 February 2012

For those who don't necessarily need the big hotel with the big lobby, facilities and the anonymous feel that comes along with it, A Little House in the Colony offers a wonderful alternative. The location is wonderful - the German Colony is one of the most charming neighbourhoods in Jerusalem and is about 20 minute walk from Jaffa gate, through the charming Yemin Moshe. The staff is wonderful, the rooms comfortable and clean and the breakfast keeps you going for hours. I'll definitely come back when revisiting Jerusalem. Note that parking on the street is not free, but parking on the nearby Beth Lehem Street is free and for the most part available.

The location can't be beat.
The staff was very kind and accommodating. The room, though not large, was well planned out, with sufficient space for luggage, for unpacking, with a desk and chair as well as a very comfortable bed, and small, though tidy private bath.
Take advantage of their generous complementary breakfast. And their extended hours let you sleep late and still awake to a wide selection of foods and a selection of newspapers, while you plan your day.
The heat or Air Conditioning is individually controlled, which is great. If you don't have a Celcius table, remember that 21 C equals 70 F. Otherwise, you'll cook yourself silly ! There's computer access in every room. (That's how I googled what level of heat I needed.)
The staff will offer as much or more help than you'd get at a large hotel.
And the room price will leave money in your pocket for shopping in the delightful boutiques of the German Colony or touring the wondrous city of Jerusalem.

Room Tip: On weekends, if you need quiet, ask for a rear room. The German Colony is lively a fun, but can be a...

A very nice place in Jerusalem, well situated in the german colony. Just 15min by walk from the old city. The room was simple but clean. And if you like to go to the movies, there is a very nice art cinema just next to the hotel !

Friendly, very helpful staff. Clean comfortable room, we chose the room NOT next to the cinema, preferring to pay a little more for some quiet. Despite this it can sometime be a little noisy because of the floor boards (noisy shoes from returning guests) and some guest loudly talking late at night as they returned. The character, price, friendly staff, great Israeli breakfast and convenient situation made up for this. Would choose Little House in the Colony again if returning to Jerusalem. Thanks guys :)

Room Tip: Pay some extra and ask for the quietest room.

We stayed at the hotel for one night this time, it was our second stay and we came back because of the perfect location, and the extremely helpful and nice staff.
The rooms are simple but cozy and homey, panel wooden floors in stead of a wall to wall carpet, a small bathroom but new and clean. The hotel seemed to be almost fully booked, and yet it was extremely quiet and peaceful.
The location is all that you can hope for in Jerusalem, it is on a small road so there is no noise, but it is in the lovely busy Colony quarter. So, just a step away you have lots of cafes, restaurants and shops. The hotel is only a 15 minute walk from the old city and its sights. The staff was lovely and smiley and the breakfast was homey and tasty. All in all a great value for the price. We will be back!

This is a budget acommodation, do not expect a luxury. Our room was not very large, the common spaces could be a bit cleaner and the breakfast room would deserve a more cheerful decoration. But: the reception staff is extremely helpful, the breakfast was OK and for dinner you can choose from various restaurants situated on a neighbouring street.

The location is great, the front desk staff was helpful and friendly, and the lobby free computer was an unexpected bonus. Although the room was clean, my bed wasn't made up often, which wasn't good and I suspect the only "cleaning" done was to leave fresh towels for me and empty the wastebaskets (although, being alone, I didn't create much dirt). The carpeted stairway up to the main reception area needed cleaning.

Another nice thing was the 15% discount on the Semadar restaurant attached to the cinematheque adjacent to the hotel--the food there was much better than at The Little House in the Colony.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a quiet room--which I got--away from the cinematheque.
