'Tokyo' is a restaurant in Riyadh which serves Japanese cuisine. Tokyo recently moved to a new building near its old spot. There were many changes, and there are benefits and disadvantages to those.
Tokyo is one of the few proper Japanese restaurants in Riyadh. I especially like Tokyo because it serves high quality food with cheaper prices compared to other Japanese restaurants, such as 'Nozomi'. The teppan food is also great to watch and eat.
The new building itself amazed me. Compared to its old building which was only one storey, the new one has another floor. This will help in receiving more customers because in the previous building, the restaurant was always full in the weekends. On top of that, the interior was also designed to receive more customers. Compared to its previous building which had rooms only, it has an open space at the ground floor. Since some customers do not mind eating in an open space, this may be a good choice to resolve the waiting problems. I also liked the atmosphere, which became more luxurious and modern but at the same time, still oriental. The building has a tone of grey, and it has many items to keep the modernised building oriental. The inside was also similar. Keeping the grey tones, the wall had Japanese drawings, wooden panels, paper cranes hanging, oriental-looking water foundation to show that it is a Japanese restaurant. I could also notice that the music changed from old, traditional songs to recent music, such as J-pop.
The services also became better. They provide a better quality of menus, chopsticks, plates and the attitude of the waiters. The manager walked around asking is we were enjoying the meal and the waiters did not look busy and rushing like before. However the time taken to bring the food was a shame, but the food was worth the waiting.
On the other hand, the prices increased overwhelmingly. Tokyo has been increasing prices constantly, and this time, the gap was huge. It is understandable to some point since the atmosphere became heavier, all plates were changed and they built a new building, but it is losing its own advantage there. Most of the people visited Tokyo because of its lower prices compared to other restaurants and I was also one of them, but the sushi and sashimi are now almost expensive as other restaurants. I could also notice that the food with the same price has decreased in the amount. But I think this is a better way to save the costs because it lessens the burdens of the high price.
As a conclusion, it could be definitely said that Tokyo is one of the best restaurants in Riyadh. The new building is very suitable for Tokyo, however, some prices increased too much, which is a little disappointing.
