Description: This is a traditional Saudi Arabian restaurant where EVERYTHING is traditional, from the food, decor (think 1950's Riyadh) & dinning style (on the floor). It does not seem to have a website, which is why I think I haven't seen any foreigners there. This is a hidden gem I believe particularly western visitors would enjoy. Truelly authentic.

Najd Village is a brand in Saudi Arabia. It is a traditional restaurant which means that the guests eat in rooms closed from each other and on carpets on the ground (no chairs). We started by two kind of dates and a sweet dish like small brown pancakes with Arabic coffee. After, the waiter served three big plates with camel and rice, lamb and rice and chicken and rice cooked in milk. Besides, he brought vegetable salad, yogurt with cucumber, pasta with vegetables and vegetables samoussas. The taste was nice. We finished with curds. Nice evening with Saudi friends.

Went a bit late so they were out of the food that we had actually come to eat. However, whatever we had ordered instead itself was pretty good but it wasn't hot.

On to the ambience. The ambience was extremely rustic Middle Eastern with a Mud fortress styled entry. There was a quarter on the right of the entrance where you'll be served with traditional hot beverages. As you move on there a space with some Saudi trinkets. Moving to the outdoor dining area, one can find majlis styled seating around a grass lawn.

I enjoyed the traditional dishes of rice and chicken - so many varieties and large portions means nobody could leave hungry!
There was a welcome qahwah (Arabic coffee) at the start, and of course, we finished with a couple of date-based desserts. They were very tasty - a scoop of ice-cream would have made them even better though!

A full 5 rating for the food.
Najd is the central region of Saudi Arabia. Literally meaning highland or upland. A remote location which was not at all inviting to foreign invaders. As such its cuisine would have been guarded from outside influences. Moreover a quarter of Saudi nationals live in this region which lends to the fact that the anything from Najd kitchen would be representative of Saudi Cuisine. Najd village sticks to this hypothesis.
Ambience is akin to a desert like scenario. Whilst entering, clients would be greeted by a history. Doors of yester years. Farm and desert utility equipment of a bygone era. Collection of coins, knives, trinkets, holy books and whatnots in a semi-lighted area. Leading to central garden like courtyard with surrounding open space seating but covered with an overhanging and beam & pillar supported ceilings.. Wooden beam support ceiling. Ground seating cushioned mats with semi private spaces enclosed & separated by 2 feet high parapet like walls. Open seating area cooled by air-conditioning vents. Served in traditional Saudi style.
Might be a bit of a strain on a family occasion. Service is a bit off. However its an absolute yes for a family eat out.
I am not going to walk you through the menu. The menu rest assured is true blooded Najd region. Please go through the internet. Some selected dishes cooked to perfection. Tandoori fire cooked huge flat bread. Its wholesome food served in large portions. Take care in ordering portions.
The taste is authentic. Don't expect food that you like. Feel the food and the desert. Enjoy food infused with sublime flavors of centuries. Untainted in the desert by any outside influence. Enjoy the taste, the food, the experience and whatever you personally feel. That would be yours only Najd experience.
