It's a nice place to visit since there were not too many tourist attractions in Bahrain. GPS was very useful in locating this place, even though it's just a few miles away from The World Trade Center and Moda Mall. There were no tour guides, you just stroll around on your own.

This is a must visit while being in Bahrain. As recommended by other travelers we went after 5 PM right around sunset time in September. Around that time and early evening is when the fort really comes to life. Although other travelers complain about transportation, we did not have any difficulty finding an Über to take us back-and-forth. You may have to wait 10 or 15 minutes to be picked up. The place is serene, Well preserved, and the audio guide that you can get at the museum is definitely worth getting. Be prepared to walk from the museum to the fort about 10 minutes and when you walk into the intersection turn left and you'll find the entrance more easily rather than going to the right and having to go around the fort to be able to get in.

I like to go this place in the afternoons say at 4.30 pm just to see the old fort where the history tells that the Portuguese have fought with the Bahrainis in this place. Old ruins still remain preserved. After a walk down and up hell take the side walk by the sea to lead you to a small coffee shop where you can have a small bite with either tea or coffee and watch the sun down at around 5.30 to 6 pm. If you are lucky, you might find a flock of birds eating sea weeds and small fish.

On the inside, the Fort has such a serene and calming feel to it, and it is stunning to say the least. It helps that it has been excellently maintained.
You can also go here for a jog/walk around the Fort; in the evening, this feels so good with the sun setting and the greenery around certain sides (and birds chirping!) and the corniche on some sides and the majestic fort standing around.
