The hotel is clean, with swimming pools (one of them indoor, with warm water) and at walking distance from the beach; perhaps, it lies a bit far from the town centre (say, 20 min by feet).
A small bar/reastaurant is also available. The staff is kind and helpful; the buffet breakfast is quite rich and good; the wifi is free and relatively fast. As other reviewers said, Punta del Este is a very expensive place, but this hotel is a good choice for families in terms of quality versus price.

Undoubtedly a very nice hotel, long time ago. Now it is not worth the money. Hotel needs to be updated. Spacious rooms with good beds and bathroom. Old poolarea, old gym, old carpets etc etc. Friendly staff, nice location near the beach. Truth being told, for this price you can find much nicer hotels in the area.

The hotel was nice and clean, not elaborate, but clean. All of the staff was friendly and the reception staff spoke English well. They were also well versed in what was going on in the town.
The free garage was a big plus.

Room Tip: It was worth it to us to have a view of the water, but even the view of the pool area was nice.

Punta del Este is ridiculously expensive, but we got a good price here as part of a package deal. The hotel is a little dated(~1990s) but has a excellent breakfast buffet, a real nice pool and foosball and pingpong for the kids. There is free wifi. The room we had was a "triple" too small for 4 people, our 2 kids had to share a single twin bed. I think the hotel needs to upgrade their rooms to 2 queen mattresses. The hotel is 1 block from the beach and Playa Mansa is perfect for kids, but a long walk to La Mano sculpture & Avenida Gorlero (which is where many places to eat are) and forget the Marina restaurants- you'll need a rental car or cab ride to get there. The beachside restaurants nearby are insanely expensive with underwhelming food as well, buy empanadas and ice cream off the beach vendors for lunch instead. The casino is 3 blocks away. A fellow gringo we met on the beach told us about Jr. Lenzina on our last day, it is a street only about 6 blocks away and has several good and cheap(for punta) restaurants, if we had known about that 2 days earlier it would have made the hotel even better. Overall a good bargain for families in a crazy-expensive town.

La Foret is a budget class hotel in regards to quality, but at Punta "budget class" doesn't mean inexpensive. The decor is dated and needs some sprucing up, but the hotel was clean. This is a small 4-floor hotel surrounded by high rise condos and hotels, and it's one block from the beach, so don't expect sweeping ocean views. Mansa Beach is only a 2-minute walk away through a safe area or you can stay put and use the hotel's pool. Actually three small pools: an enclosed heated pool, an unheated outdoor pool and a shallow kiddy pool. There's a small restaurant with limited offerings if you want a quick snack. The closest full-service restaurant is at the Hilton, about a 15 minute walk away. It's a 20 to 25 minute walk to Gorlero Avenue, the central shopping district where you'll find galleries, restaurants, upscale retail shops, and the bus station for transportation to Montevideo. If you're schlepping luggage, you'll want a cab, about Ur$160 (US$8). Best Western's website offers two types of rooms: one with a king size bed and the other with twin beds. These are actually the same - if you request a single large bed, the hotel staff will simply put two twin beds together (more comfortable than it sounds). The website seems to over-promise on some of the amenities. The "business center" is two PCs in the lobby, without a printer. (The free Wi-Fi worked well from the guest rooms earlier in the day, but tended to drop in the evening.) The "security guard" and the "concierge" are simply the clerk at the front desk. The "complimentary newspaper" seemed to be a single Spanish-language newspaper that is placed on a table in the lobby each morning, after one of the employees had read it. The "exercise room" consisted of 7 older exercise machines in a dimly lit room with peeling paint. I can't comment on the hot tub and the sauna, since they were in a room with a locked door; to gain access you had to make arrangements at the front desk and pay a fee of $8/hour for each. The guest rooms have a safe, as he website promises, but the lock cylinder is missing; you need to request one at the front desk and sign a statement agreeing to pay US$100 if you lose the key. The breakfast is OK, not great, but is the same each day and quickly gets monotonous. The rooms have a 29-inch flat panel TV with a few English-language stations, mostly syndicated American sitcoms and dramas, but no CNN, BBC or other news channels. It's likely that the other hotels nearby have the same TV lineup.
