Arriving at Solanas Villages in Punta del Este (more precisely Punta Ballena, 20 mns drive from PDE itself) for the first time can be tricky: you’d expect not only the beautiful and huge complex with gardens, facilities like swimming pools and the impressive Crystal Beach, but also some good restaurants or at least snack bars where to consume a quick meal. Consider that there is only a very small drugstore in the complex, so no way to do your food shopping to cook in the apartment you rented (unless you come with your car full of food) and that with the buquebus from Buenos Aires you get at Solanas around 1 pm and you are hungry having gotten up very early to catch the 7.15 am boat from Puerto madero. Well, being the only option ( well, ok you have a beach bar at the crystal lagoon) Kalhua is not bad: we had a nice and fresh Caesar salad (normally I avoid it but this time it resulted in a very good option), some fish and sandwiches. It is not cheap ( nothing is cheap around there) but it saved us in a very hot and hungry day.
