This was our second trip with Alfred my daughter had been a few years ago and for both of us a must do trip when in Noumea. Much better value than any trips from the cruise and Alfred has never missed a departure.
We were the only ship in port.
We got the shuttle bus from our ship to the tourist information centre.
Alfred (our tour guide) met us at the otherside of theTourist Information Centre walk through to the shade cloths at the back, have a look at the shops in the information centre as you walk through.
Alfred has a big cheeky smile and lots of stories to tell.
You will need local currency for the Island if you want drinks (you get water with lunch), the money exchange near the information centre is only open on cruise days you can also visit the supermarket nearby.
A comfortable air conditioned bus took us on a guided tour of Noumea city highlights then to the ferry wharf you can leave your bags in the ferry office and have a walk around the morning market whilst waiting for the ferry.
A large ferry to paradise, Escapade Island (took approx 20 minutes), we returned on the 3pm ferry, had to hold the ferry for a few minutes for my daughter to run down the long peir to the resort and back to retrieve her sandals.
You can grab a spot by the pool or in the resort area, try the water activites, snorkle with amazing fish and turtles (need own equipment) or walk around the island and watch the kite surfers on the otherside of the Island. It takes a couple of minutes to walk to the other beach and we saw turles swimming around near the beach on that side too. We had a snorkle going under the rooms over the water it was so clear.
A highlight seeing turtles and watching a sea hawk swoop down and catch a large fish for its lunch, the sea hawks were in the trees near the pool. Work up an appetite for an amazing buffet lunch, seafood, freshly cooked steaks, salads, cheese, hot dishes and a to die for pastry selection.
A lazy float in the pools or around the pier and a lie down on the couch to recover.
We had an amazing time, again the highlight of our cruise!
Lovely to see you again Alfred thank you for another really memorable day! Big hug
The bus took us to our ship in the docks no extra shuttle bus to catch.

Our tour guide was Alfred. What a great guy. Friendly, funny and knew his stuff. He treated us to a great tour around Nouméa and then we went out to Escapade Island. We enjoyed the Resort facilities. Wonderful food all included. Snorkelled with the Turtles and fish. A great 6hr tour. Highly recommend. Check out their FB page.

We booked a tour to Escapade Island with Gateway Tours, whom we found delightful.

After getting off the ship (Royal Carribean) in Noumea, Alfred and Genie were waiting outside the shopping arcade. We had to ask several people where they were, but everyone just kept pointing to outside of the arcade. Just walk outside the building and Alfred will be under a tree with his list of attendees.

They took approximately 35-50 of us from the Ship on the tour, so if you are concerned that you may be the only one from the cruise on this trip, not to worry. Alfred pointedly stated he has never missed getting anyone back to the ship in time for departure.

(Hint: If you are a shopper, take a few minutes to look around the arcade for the best souvenir shopping in Noumea, before your departure with Alfred, as they will be closed upon your return later that afternoon. The other islands did not seem to offer the same quality of hand made items as this area - I saw a painting for purchase and passed on buying it thinking I would find it again or something similar, and I did not see anything at all of similar quality.)

The island is lovely, but full of coral. Definitely take your water shoes, as this is not white sandy beaches.

The resort lunch is fantastic. Major selections and very freshly prepared. (I thought it better than the cruise food).

There are not that many beach chairs, so . . . first off the ferry gets the best selections. You are not really there that long, so it is really not a big deal no matter where you find a chair.

The over the water bungalows looked enticing. Alfred showed us around to the opposite side of the island, where there was many locals with water kites. Simply lovely.

A quick tour of the city, a great day on the island, with no problems to or from. Don't hesitate - a wonderful time with extraordinary friendly folks!

In January 2018, my family of 4 cruised to New Zealand with Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas and the first stop was Noumea. We have been there before and went on some cruise ship shore tours, but this time I wanted to see more of Resort style places and get some better value for our money.
Before we left Australian shores I researched a lot of options and booked a tour with Genie from Gateway Tours Noumea. This tour was to take us on from Noumea, starting with a quick city highlights coach tour, followed by a large ferry boat transfer to Escapade Island for a full day relaxation on World Heritage 5 star Resort, with fresh seafood buffet lunch included. It costed us $150AUD per adult and $100AUD per child. Total of $500 was a lot better value, compared to cruise ship tour of 3 hrs, totalling at $800-$1000 per family and with no lunch inclusion.
When we arrived in Noumea, Alfred (our tour guide) met us at the Tourist Information Centre. We were taken around in a comfortable air conditioned bus on a guided tour of Noumea city highlights along the way to the ferry wharf. Once we got across to the Island (about 20 minutes), the picturesque paradise, called Escapade Island was all ours until 4pm. We had a nice walk around at first, took so many photos, turtles were swimming around the beach on one side and on the other side we were stunned by beautiful bar pools. Shortly after we were invited to dine in the 5star resort there with a full seafood buffet, which was absolutely amazing. And all included in price!
Then we went swimming around the local pier and wharf area with the turtles. We had an amazing time there and this tour was the top highlight of the entire cruise! We would love to thank Alfred for his great work in ensuring that our day was really memorable! He had an amazing sense of humour, great English and very knowledgeable about Noumea and its history, even though his real home is Vanuatu!
I am planning my next cruise with my parents in law and can say that I am certainly booking this tour to Escapade Island again! I will also book it for my two friends arriving from Europe and planning a cruise to Noumea and Vanuatu, as it is truly a secret paradise spot on Earth!
Thank you Gateaway tours!

We visited Noumea on 26th of Jan 2018. Alfred was waiting for us at the designated spot just as expected, greeting us with the smile. But that was where it all ended. We were taken on approx one hour tour around Noumea which ended up at some kind of observation deck. Not much to see there, they did not even give us time to take some pictures, feels like a waste of time. Then they took us to the local market next to the main wharf where we were forced to wait for the ferry to take us to the Escapade Island for over an hour, more waste of time! When we finally got to the Island we were given 25 min for swimming/snorkeling and then 45 min lunch and then another 20 min of swimming. What a joke!!! After that they took us back on the overcrowded ferry which we shared with some tourists going back to the wharf and forced to stand all the way back. When i pointed it out to Alfred he did not even say a word of apology! He said nothing at all!! And they dropped us back at the ship at 3 pm instead of 4.30 as promised. To cut a long story short DO NOT EVEN BOTHER TO WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! ITS A RIP OFF!!! Just make your own way to the main wharf, get a ferry to Escapade Island, enjoy your day!! Do yourself a favor and save money.
