My family of four stayed here for 2 nights last year.
Many rooms were sold out so we booked a twin room, which bills itself as sleeping 2 adults and 2 children but is quite cramped. We also spotted cockroaches in the bathroom.
The resort facilities are very nice and the setting on the lagoon is quite idyllic, although the water is not as clear in the pictures.
My younger child loved the kids pool area, while my son enjoyed fish feeding and playing sports along the water.
The food in the main restaurant was quite average and I was surprised at the lack of seafood on the menu. We had a few communication difficulties with the staff at the pool bar which resulted in an incorrect dish being served and the waits were quite long. Despite this the staff were all very friendly and happy to resolve any issues.
The kids club seemed clean and well run enough but they didn't seem to do a great number of activities.
All in all we didn't have a bad stay at the Holiday Inn it just wasn't remarkable.

Hello Louche,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for leaving a review. Great to hear that your kids enjoyed the pool and kids club facilities. On the other hand, I am sorry that the room layout, its condition and the food selection negatively affected your overall satisfaction.

On a lighter note, I am happy that the staff was able to resolve some issues you have brought up. Your comments will be forwarded to the hotel management, this will assist us in our continuous efforts to maintain and improve the service level we aim for.

Again, thank you for staying and we hope you give us another chance to show you how great our hotel is.

Best Regards,

We have just returned from a week long stay in the Holiday Inn. Traveling with our 2 young children (2.5yr and 7mnths), this hotel was a great choice. Kids stay and eat free and there is a complementary kids club which our toddler loved. Kids pool is good - has a little mushroom thing etc. 2 main pools are good. Lovely outlook over the lagoon. Free equipment hire (catamarans, kayak etc). Well maintained hotel with some great activities (movie night is great fun. We ordered food and they set up a table down there for us while our son watched the kids movie on the big screen)

All in all I would have given this hotel 4 stars if it wasn’t for the exceptional service. The service was spot on every time. The senior staff were all extremely intuitive to their guests feelings / moods and satisfaction levels and for this reason I give the hotel 5 stars - as I started out thinking nice but by end of trip was won over enough to say I would come back - which isn’t something I normally do

Rooms:
We booked the King Suite which is basically a one bedroom with separate living room. (note: ended up booking via website online as the hotel direct reservations were not very helpful and kept saying it wasn’t available for our dates - even though it was on the website - and trying to upsell us to the family suite - which we were not keen on cause it had bunk beds which we didn’t think a good idea with our adventurous 2yo).

Online booking was smooth and we requested a roll away bed and a cot in the requests/comments section. Both of which were set up on in our room on arrival. The configuration was perfect for our needs as we were able to shut our toddler in his room for day sleep our only gripe was that neither the tv in bedroom or lounge worked properly and the WiFi didn’t work in our bedroom only the lounge which was frustrating as that’s where toddler was sleeping

Meals:
We opted for a package including breakfast which I would recommend as there isn’t anywhere else close (taxi is 700 V into town and you have to walk all the way up to main road to get bus).

We found the restaurant prices pretty fair at the holiday inn (ranging 1800-2800 for mains). We had friends staying at The Warwick and they were being stung $150aud for buffet dinners every night... similar to H.i. The warwick isn’t really close to anywhere so taxi into town is 1000 v. So holiday inn is definately more affordable for meals that le warwick

We didn’t opt in to the “special dinners” down on beach - mainly because they charged for kids (3500 per adult then half price for kids). I think they would get a lot more buy in if they stuck with their kids eat free for these events as I chat to several other families who were also eating up in the verandah bar and it was for the same reason...

Tip: although there are different menus in each of the 3 locations (verandah, restaurant, pool bar) you can actually order off any of the menus at any of the locations - which is awesome (we mainly ate at the verandah bar as it was a little more chilled)

Eating out:
Recommend The Stone Grill for a steak (we had the sirloin which was perfect and very reasonably priced) and Reefers is also excellent and a great spot for lunch or sunset drink as it’s right on the water (the bacon wrapped prawns and grilled sushimi are excellent). Reefers is run by an Aussie and he has a Great rum selection and their bloody mojito (cross between Bloody Mary and mojito) are awesome.

If you are about for a Friday night - a visit over to the beach bar for pizza and fire show is worthwhile; tho holiday inn do have their own fire show on Thursday nights - just not quite the same atmosphere but still worth doing). It’s a bit of a hike but you should be able to negotiate for around 3000 v return (you should not be paying more than 4000 v). Book early if you want a good table.

Day trips:
Zoological is well worth a visit if you have kids. While down that way; turtle bay, the smaller cascades and blue lagoon are all must visits. We recommend hiring a private driver. On this point - a lot of the taxi and bus drivers around holiday inn will try to sting you so for day trips you should not be paying more than around 10,000 v for a full day (that’s 10,000 total. NOT per person). Half day is 5-6000. Taxi’s will also negotiate for day trips, some will do similar rates and others will want a lot more.

The other option is to hire a private driver in a more luxurious car. The local limousine charter hire company will negotiate good rates. its 20,000per day for the limousine bus which includes a driver, or 10,000 for the SUV if you self drive (we negotiated to pay 13,000 including a driver). Ask for Samson - he was our driver and was one of the nicest islanders we met, he also speaks 4 languages including English and French

If going around the island - le life resort is a great spot for lunch. Or Francesca’s (Italian).

A day trip to Erakor Island for lunch is also worth while. It’s 1000 v taxi to where the boat goes from. You have to pay for the boat trip over but this is redeemed in vouchers towards lunch anyway

We started off with a small hiccup, but it was all sorted professionally and without aggravation.

All hotel staff from reception, maintenance, housekeeping, bar and restaurant are very friendly
Polite and take an interest in your trip.

We don’t have kids, there a lots of families and from what we can see the kids love it here

Would definitely recommend this venue for all travellers

Arrived at the Holiday Inn late after aborting an attempt to check in at our booked hotel, Cocomo. (no one available to check us in when we arrived.)
Staff at Holiday Inn were awesome, we got a great room, breakfast thrown in and it was overall a very nice stopover. Will be booking this property in the future.

This is a wonderful place for families with young kids. The waterfront is shallow and calm. The splash pool is lots of fun. The resort is relatively small and easy to navigate. The food is great and the kids eat free!! There is not a lack of activities which are free! However if you are looking for ocean front this is not it. This is a small, calm bay if water. There is no wake. Lots is starfish but we went on an excursion to enjoy the snorkeling. A wonderfully organic place to explore. We felt very safe there.
