We stayed at Hideaway Island for 1 night, and wished we were there longer. The rooms are big and open, with great views, and the hammock out the front was awesome to lay and relax. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was great.

The highlight of our stay was the snorkelling; it is easy to spend hours drifting above the coral and fish. If you don't stay on Hideaway Island, it is definitely worth a day trip! We went back for a day trip towards the end of our holiday in Vanuatu. The return trip on the ferry only cost 1000 vatu per person, and it is better value just to catch a bus to the jetty than booking through a travel agent.

One thing we would recommend, if you are booking a holiday through a travel agency, and it includes airport transfers, be sure to have copies of transfer vouchers available to give to staff. Unfortunately we were unaware of this, and had to pay upfront to a taxi driver for our transfer from airport to Hideaway. However, after showing staff at Hideaway our travel document from travel agent, the staff reimbursed the full value of our taxi fare to our room account.

Overall, Hideaway was one of our favourite places in Vanuatu and excellent value for money. If planning a trip to Vanuatu, we would highly recommend a stay at Hideaway.

We stayed at Hideaway for five nights in Bungalow 3 - it was big, clean and spacious. The view from the deck was brilliant out towards sunrise every morning. The snorkelling was fantastic and we enjoyed the snorkelling safari with Kevin - the fish life was truly spectacular. It was the prefect family place for us and we will always remeber the ladies in the kitchen singing hyms at breakfast time!
We also enjoyed the village walk with Alice and were able to walk to the Mele Cascades, The Secret Garden and the Tanna Coffee house from the Island.
The staff were lovely and helpful and we would have liked to stay longer.

We originally were to stay two nights but extended to four nights as we loved it so much. Stayed at in Bungalow (11 and 13) they were very clean and basic. Double bed and two single beds, big fridge for all the duty free alcohol we bought along and a hammock out the front. Water was about 10m from front door, the best snorkeling experience family have had (Fiji and Great Barrier) loads of fish and terrific variety. The snorkeling was so good we did an introductory dive as a family (kids 12 and 13) it was excellent, thanks to Nikki and Kevin. Basic continental breakfast and evening meals were satisfactory and much cheaper than other resort, curry 1400 Vatu or $14. Do not expect a big resort stay, no tennis court or massive pools but fantastic snorkeling and relaxation. Thank you Hideaway, Loved It.

We stayed on Hideaway Island for our last 2 nights in Port Villa. The bunaglow (11) was way better than I expected - very spacious, very clean and in a great location. The maid service was amazing - she folded all our clothes which wed dumped on the fllor to repack that night! best service ever. Meals were good, snorkelling excellent, ferry ride a thrill for kids. I'd go back and stay longer next time. I travelled with 3 kids - 16,10,5. Definitely need reef shoes!

Room Tip: Room 11 - at end of beach so quiet and private and great sunsets

I did not stay here, but visited as a day guest to do some snorkelling and hang out in the sun. However, after visiting, I wished I had stayed there. As a day guest it costs 1000vt entry fee and I found it was worth every vatu.
The variety of fish directly in front of the beach is amazing. With 1 metre of entering the water you will see many fish. There are two bommies out in the water that are handy resting points between the most interesting reefs. It really is an amazing spot, and so close to port vila.
The actual beach area is quite small, but well kept. It is all coral, so i will stress along with everyone else - bring reef shoes!! They were amazingly handy during my whole stay in vanuatu, and they dry much faster than runners. In terms of amennities, there are showers/change rooms and toilets just behind the beach, and deck chairs with tables on the coral beach, and some set a little back in the shade. It is completely safe to leave your things at your chair/table while you swim - there are staff everywhere. The bar/restaurant does tasty food, and you can hire snorkelling equipment. They also do snorkel tours and other water based tours throughout the day. The ferry is also really handy, and if you are heading into town, there are no shortages on buses to catch either from the ferry landing, or on the main road which is only a few minutes walk from there. I paid 150vt one way between port vila to hideaway.
If you do not stay at hideaway, you must at least visit for a day. If you enjoy, or want to try snorkelling, this is the place to go!
