Stayed in several places during the course of our trip, and The Melanesian is a good mid-range option for Port Vila. It's just slightly out of the main center of town (about a 10-15 min walk downhill). Rooms are well equipped with the basics, small minibar, light toiletries, small safe, but don't expect much beyond that.

Based on other reviewers I had been concerned about the beds, and they were firm, but nothing out of the ordinary in my experience. The central pool area was quiet the whole time we were there, and even with the evening activities things had wound down by around 9 pm so noise probably wouldn't interfere with any early-to-bed types.

Inclusive breakfast is fine (although would be an issue to those with food allergies). A few kinds of breads & bakery items, rotating selection of fruits, puffy pancakes, a couple of cereals, and juice.

Staff is friendly, and if I went back to Port Vila I'd certainly consider staying here again.

Resort is dated, photos are misleading. Bedding was uncomfortable. The only positives I would give are to staff who were great. Meals and drinks were good but facilities lacking. Much better options are available, with better locations.

The property as such is a little old. Rooms are decent and clean. The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet which is quite limited. If you are staying for more than 3 days it gets a little monotonous.

The real challenge is the free Wi-Fi. It is painfully slow. You need to keep logging on every two hours.

An excellent resort catering for basic needs. Not the flashiest on the island, but very adequate for a great value holiday. Staff particularly good - reception and those at the Oasis Bar. Evening meals and shows were very good.

Thank you for the kind compliments and yes we are an old and antique property on the island therefore we can easily be compared to other properties but we are always trying to make our stay a memorable and satisfying one. We look forward to seeing you again!

Generally quiet hotel... except on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday when its the cultural night but hey that's great. Each night is a different cultural group, I saw all three including the water music on Friday. Friday night is also curry buffet, while the Sunday and Wednesday night shows have a bbq and fire dancing display (at least when I stayed). There is free unlimited wifi in your room and lobby or pool area, but on different sign ins, so just check at the desk if you are unsure which one you can connect to.
Breakfast is at 6am-10am but that is pretty flexible, you can order a cooked breakfast but I just had the continental buffet each morning which was more than suitable. It includes a daily soup, that really is different each day and worth having, there is fresh french breadrolls/sticks, croissants, several cereals, pancakes in the shape of fish (the hotel is run by Japanese and fish shaped pancakes are traditional in Japan), plenty of fresh fruit along with the usual toast, yoghurt and tea/coffee.
As I mentioned the hotel is owned and managed by Japanese so they have daily sashimi, usually tuna. The chef also caters for a French menu with lobster mornay often on the lunch or dinner menu. The hotel also has great pizza, with fluffy crust and a range of topping styles - this month they also gave away free bbq wings with each pizza. Many locals order the pizza as take out.
Its a good place to base yourself in Port Vila and very quiet (once the cultural performance ends around 9pm) and safe at night.
The staff are always helpful and can help you with taxis or tours with a booking venue in the lobby.
